Florida State University Class of 2028 Official Thread

Anyone know the schedule for the first evening of orientation? The website says check in starts about 5:30 but how long does that last and what else happens that night? Trying to figure out if it’s ok to arrive later.

Hi everyone!

I’m jumping over here from the Music Majors corner of the forum. Have any of you received notification of any merit awards/scholarships or non-federal aid yet? If yes, was it just via the portal or did your student receive an email? DS has one “automatic” award for being accepted into the College of Music, but not sure if that’s all he’s getting or if more is to come. Thanks so much!

My S24 applied to FSU near the end of the deadline, but has not heard anything. He applied near the end of Feb. Any idea when he should hear something? He has gotten into U of Oregon, Indiana U-Bloomington, wait listed for Michigan State and U of Pitt.
Thanks

So your son would’ve been in the Rolling Decision pool, and the website says, “Released on a rolling basis in early April”, so hopefully you’ll be hearing something soon.

FSU Admissions | First-Year - How to Apply

I heard tomorrow 4/4 is when deferred decisions are coming out, so maybe rolling too?

I asked a similar question directly above yours. I didn’t see any replies so I looked back at old orientation schedules and it looks like it’s simply registration and getting the kids squared away and into the dorm. Then they do their own thing. I expect the new schedule will be online soon…looks like they have already refreshed some parts of the New Noles pages.

Hi MommaBerd,

The only awards my daughter received came with the acceptance…seen in the portal. We haven’t seen, nor do we expect to see, any other awards or aid.

Where did you hear this?

From college counselor here in Florida that speaks with admissions

I posted a question in this thread last month regarding appealing for in-state tuition for D24 and just wanted to provide an update. Upon appeal submitted in February (which consisted of a letter from my daughter, updated transcript, downloaded copies of full ACT scores, and award letters from other comparable schools), FSU did come back last week with a scholarship awarding her a 50% OOS waiver for four years. For those on the fence of asking for more aid: do it! You may be pleasantly surprised.

(As an aside, daughter was torn between FSU honors and UF, until recent RD acceptance to Notre Dame, where she is now committed. She has declined all other spots she was offered.)

Do you know if FSU sends an email to check portal when decision is made?

They did for RD, but it was 30 minutes delayed from when they actually were posted on the portal.

I would check starting around 4 or 5 EST today

Thank you!

Good luck!

This is great news! Did your daughter write to financial aid or admissions?

Thanks. Truthfully, I’m pretty sure that my D24 will not get in, but will be a nice surprise if she does.

We are touring FSU next week. Coming in from upstate NY and have never been to the campus before. For anyone that has already toured or with experience with the campus are there any “must do” or “must see” items that we should make sure to add to our agenda? FSU is currently one of his top picks so I am hoping for a great day to seal the deal.

She wrote an email and sent all document attachments to the regional AO listed in the portal, the main admissions office, and to the financial aid office. From there, she received a reply from a program manager with the Office of Admissions, whom became her point of contact. It was very nice that they came back with the 50% waiver! I’m glad she went through the process and advocated for herself, even though she ultimately chose a different school. Hopefully others in a similar situation will do the same and also receive aid!

Hi Amy, we are from Mass and toured at the beginning of March. It was our first visit to the campus. I’m not sure how your schedule matches up against the FSU calendar, but we went to an FSU baseball game and it was awesome. I highly recommend it if you can fit it in.
