I also heard they were the newer nicer ones
But they are just traditional doubles it looks like
W maybe a handful of singles ?
Not sure what makes them the “best” dorms
Does anyone know how the lottery day looks?
Do they have a certain amount of time to pick from the available dorms at that time
Like we need to be ready w our top choices and hope one of them is still an option?
They are popular because they are the newest and also the main dining area is in the bottom of one of them. As for singles, from what I’ve heard there is almost no chance in any of the dorms. FSU housing doesn’t seem to have as many options as other schools. We would be very interested in a single, even if it’s just the small little divided bedroom like many schools have, but it sounds like it won’t happen at fsu.
The housing ranking can be changed around as much as you want i think until May, I’d have to look. (It is done in the portal.) Then the assignments are made based on your contract number.
They are the ‘best’ because they are the newest. Azalea and Magnolia were built in 2017 and the Dorman and Deviney were built in 2014.
When my D was an incoming freshman, she had a good number but still had to log in and pick quickly to get a good room. It is first come first serve, so if you wait you may miss out on the best options even with a good number. She stayed in Azalea on the fourth floor.
It works different this year. They put in their rankings on the portal and can change it as much as they want before the final day, which I think is May 1st. Then it is locked in and room assignments will be based on that with the contract number used to decide order of the line” of students.
I agree those are considered best due to being new (and also one of them has the main dining in the building). My own daughter is still learning honors dorms though and she has a high enough number she could probably get in one of the new ones.
Son just got notiified he is a finalist for the Presidential Scholars which requires an in person weekend/interview in April. While this is very exciting, does anyone know how the business school compares to U Florida. He is in at both and has his heart set (as of now) for UF. We can afford the price difference but want to see if anyone. Getting this scholarship if it happens would make the price difference about 25-30K per year which is substantial but we planned and this is doable if he likes it. We visited both and he liked UF more but it seems important to him that he is wanted which is what FSU is doing well.
Is the UF business school more highly regarded? Yes.
Can he get just about any job with an FSU degree that he can get with a UF degree? Yes.
If we were talking Michigan or Texas or any school that is a target for IB, it would be different.
Even though you can afford UF, that doesn’t mean you should. However, if your son prefers UF, and you have the money & you planned for this, I would go with UF. He only has one life.
Daughter will be attending FSU as an out of state student. Does anyone know of a shuttle for Jacksonville Airport? Other options? Looking for tips on how to get daughter in and out the best way possible traveling to and from Massachusetts.
My son is a current freshman and we live in PA. Unfortunately there is no shuttle or reliable bus service to Jacksonville. Many students will get rides from someone else they know headed in that direction if they can. We knew there would be some transportation issues this year going in, so we budgeted for flights out of Tallahassee, we usually have him take Delta through Atlanta, although American through Charlotte or one of the DC airports is also possible. Connections to that area of the northeast are unavoidable unfortunately. There is a bus I believe called the Red Coach that a lot of the kids take to Orlando and then fly direct from there, I think it’s about a 4-5 hour ride, you may also be able to take that bus to Tampa and fly from there. Next year my son is taking his car so he can drive to Jacksonville for the shorter breaks, I’ve heard the long term parking there is reasonable, and will probably drive home for winter break.
Thank you for the feedback. I’m sure it will be a learning experience with FSU travel. My son is at U. of Maryland and there are so many options to get home but FSU is such a great value school that I’ll deal with the difficult travel stuff.
We live in NC and didn’t get it yet, so we just called this morning and they are mailing another one to us. They said they were all mailed out, but we definitely didn’t get one(daughter checks the mail everyday like an 8 year old waiting on a birthday card )
Yep, in Washington. Got mine 2 weeks or so after getting in. It was just a copy of the acceptance letter, some flyers, and stickers. Nothing essential.
Does anyone have a copy of the New Nole Family Orientation schedule? I am signed up for a session in June with my daughter and it’s 3 days. I see the Transfer Family Orientation schedule on the FSU site but I can’t find the fall-start, 3 day schedule. I’d like Family Orientation schedule to see what my obligations are.
