Florida State University Class of 2028 Official Thread

That makes sense. I’ve just heard some conflicting information. My DD mentioned that if you complete your 2 year degree at TCC (not sure of the exact certificate name) you’re basically guaranteed at spot at FSU. But it’s likely not that straightforward since I don’t know how FSU could absorb that many students.

Thank you…very helpful! A little surprised that the GPA requirement for TCC transfers is so low (anywhere from 2.0 to 2.5 depending on major). Probably not worth dwelling on, but I still can’t figure out why the freshman admit standards are so high (1390 avg. SAT, 25% acceptance rate, high school weighted GPA 4.4) and the transfer requirements are so lenient.

Yeah, I’ve been scratching my head about this for awhile as well. To add to my confusion, when you check out FSU’s transfer section in their common data set, they claim they only admit 2313 out of 8218 transfer applicants (28%) which it makes it seem to be a difficult transfer admit, but then you hear all the stories about how easy it is to go from TCC over to FSU. So I’m a little puzzled about the true story. BTW, the pathways program where you do just 1 semester at TCC or Panama City or abroad and then come in for spring semester only had I believe 1150 offers. I don’t get the impression that the Aspire program at TCC was capped. Can anyone else clue us in on how this all fits together? Is FSU an easy or hard admit for transfers coming from the TCC Aspire route?

I’m only guessing, but I’m sure they have figured out how many kids actually end up sticking with the 2 years at TCC to then transfer. Then you have kids that start at FSU but maybe don’t continue after 1 or 2 years for whatever reason. My D24 was offered Aspire and will not take the offer. She has many other acceptances to schools. She has a 4.35 WGPA and knew that applying to FSU was a reach based on her test scores. The kids that decide on this path are either really only interested in FSU or they didn’t have other options.

Understandable. However, I thought the guaranteed offer from FSU was called pathways, and Aspire was for kids at TCC who were not offered a guaranteed seat at FSU?

Yes, you are correct. It is different from pathways. But, aspire is still more than just someone who starts college at TCC and then wants to transfer to FSU. According to the FSU website, they provide FSU advisors and other support.

Thanks for the info, buy S24 did not get in. He applied too late to have a real chance. He was ok with the denial.

We have the same questions! Daughter applied for fall 24 but was pushed to rolling Admissions because of a problem on the application. She just found out she was accepted for spring 2025 after needing to attend TCC fall 2024. She wanted to do the first year abroad, but it doesn’t seem to apply if you’re not accepted as a fall 24 student into fsu.

Has anyone gotten their financial aid package yet??

Nope.

We knew going into the process it was going to be a close call for our son. He was deferred, then offered spring 2025 admission after a semester at TCC. He really hadn’t mentioned much about FSU (the closest any of us have come to a visit is walking the campus streets on Google Maps), had been accepted to other schools with very strong programs in his major, so we were a little surprised when he jumped at the FSU offer. Is your daughter going to accept the spring FSU offer? The daughter of friends did the study abroad program in Valencia and is still raving about it four years later. It’s something we’re interested in, too. I haven’t researched it yet, but I imagine it is something you can also do sophomore year?…

It’s not a few years. A friend of ours transferred in after six months at TCC. It’s like a bridge program. A lot of schools do it. Why would this bother bother anyone?

Not concerned with the Pathway kids. I think that’s a great program for FSU to offer to be able to admit additional deserving kids in spring or later, and as you mentioned many other universities have similar programs. Those students have been vetted by FSU admissions and have shown promise/academic ability to handle the work. My concern more lies with some of the other TCC (Now TSC) students who may be less interested in academics and more interested in fun/partying who are intermixed in off campus housing right there around the FSU campus. I believe kids who start in community college and work hard and get good grades deserve a shot to transfer and earn their bachelors degree at a school like FSU. However, I think it would be preferable if TCC had a little more of its own culture and separation from FSU’s campus until the kids transfer over. This matters to me because my kid has expressed he wants to go to a school where he is surrounded by other strong students focused on academics.

It seems a lot of kids who may not have gotten into FSU out of HS convince their parents they will be able to go to TCC and transfer over to FSU later (via Aspire rather than Pathways who are guaranteed admission). Not sure how likely this is given the numbers? I also noticed that FSU’s website says they enroll roughly 3k transfer students a year, but their common data consistently states the number of enrolled transfers is in the 1600-1800 year, so maybe it’s more likely than I think or there is something else going on that they don’t report on the CDS?

Agree with this 100% and it’s one of the main reasons FSU is a concern for us. My daughter wants to attend a school where she’ll be around like minded kids who are serious about both academics and enjoying the college experience. Having a community college with almost 12,000 students right next to FSU and where the students from both schools are commingling at social events and sporting events is just a little odd and something you don’t see at most selective colleges. And I fully support giving students who work hard a pathway into FSU, but given the apparently small number of students who actually transfer from TCC to FSU it does make me wonder a bit about the overall caliber of TCC students…mainly the 90% of TCC students who never end up transferring to FSU.

Ae1231, aren’t you committed to UF? I can’t imagine FSU would send you any financial aid package after you committed to UF and declined FSU?

I have not declined FSU yet. 2nd choice just in case something goes wrong.

I would call and talked to admissions
It can’t hurt.

22dad, FSU just posted the Orientation schedule online.

Thanks!
