Florida State University Class of 2028 Official Thread

Does anyone know what SAT score was needed for the OOS waiver? It must be higher than 1420.

Son accepted.

Vires scholarship.

Didn’t apply to honors at FSU.

Nice not to get a rejection.

Yea I think so, I didn’t get it either but I checked the presidential scholars page and it said if you got it it would be in the honors letter

Figured. I have an excited daughter here either way. Pretty hard for me to make her go to UW Wisconsin now with the oos waiver

NMSF should get you into Honors as long as you become a National Merit Finalist. From the FSU Admissions Scholarship page:

Out-of-State Resident

This prestigious scholarship is available to National Merit Finalists graduating with a standard high school diploma and who are awarded a National Merit, Corporate National Merit, or College-sponsored National Merit Scholarship. If you are a National Merit Finalist, you must list FSU as your first-choice institution by May 1.

Florida State University’s Out-of-State National Merit Award scholarship package has a total value of approximately $75,776 distributed across four years. It includes a 100 percent out-of-state tuition waiver, a $16,000 Vires scholarship, and a $2000 NMSC stipend (if college sponsored). This scholarship guarantees admission into FSU’s distinguished University Honors Program once National Merit Finalist standing has been confirmed. In addition, all National Merit Finalists who apply to the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) during the first year, which connects high-achieving students with distinguished research mentors to work as research assistants, will be guaranteed admission to UROP.

Was there an extra application piece for honors or were you auto-considered. I forgot.

separate application

Separate application. I really wish that I would have pushed my daughter to apply to Honors. At the time, she just had her heart set on UCF and didn’t want to work on any more application and essays after getting into the UCF Honor’s College. Still - like most honor’s colleges, I think being able to take advantage of early registration will be very helpful. Also, I think you can apply at the end of your first year if you didn’t apply now or didn’t get in.

You had to say “Yes” in the Common App, then the Honors application would’ve been made available

Yeah. I don’t do honors anywhere unless I was autoconsidered. Just wanted to check

Does anyone know if FSU allows for a deferred acceptance/gap year? They used to have a program where you could even get funding for your gap year, but now the page on their website is unavailable.

Props to FSU for making college affordable to so many OOS students. Hard to imagine FSU doesn’t continue to rise.

My son was accepted with a 1440. I don’t see an OOS waiver.

I think someone said 1460 was the minimum.

edit: nevermind it is 1420, check under the acceptance letter for a link to scolarship letter.

I think you will get in (but I know nothing) but I am sending good karma your way

Thanks. I really hope so. That is my top choice as of now.

Do they have a 4.0 recalculated GPA? That is the other requirement for the OOS waiver

FWIW my daughter had 4.0 unweighted and 32 ACT, got OOS waiver.

Not sure what all goes into the recalculated GPA but likely not. I don’t see a link in the acceptance letter. thanks.
