Florida v. Zimmerman

The defense is doing a good job of getting the lead detective to say that Zimmerman’s story was reasonably consistent from one telling to another, and that is is natural for a person’s story to change a bit as time goes on. He has spent a lot of time on this. O’mara has stretched out the cross examination to emphasize how cooperative Zimmerman was with the police.

Nobody has yet addressed (at least not while I’ve watched today) the inconsistencies between Zimmerman’s story and the physical evidence, although the inconsistencies are there in the tapes they played in court.

Did anyone watch enough of today’s testimony to say whether the prosecution has addressed inconsistencies yet? Or will that come later?

NewHope33 - I still don’t see any bushes.

Watching GZ’s walkthrough with the police, it looks like the location he’s standing at, describing his altercation with GM, is about 20 feet north of where TM’s body and the cartridge from GZ’s gun were found, in the location where GZ’s keys and flashlight were. I’m finding Calmom’s “two fights” factual analysis persuasive given the physical location of things.

“That doesn’t even sound like me.” George Zimmerman

ETA: I’m noticing that they aren’t addressing the difference between the reenactment and the physical evidence too, eastcoast. I’m hoping they will bring on an expert to get it in the record.

well of course GZ was going to be cooperative at the scene and later with the police. He wanted to be one of them and he really had no choice but to say “I shot him” What option did he have, it was his gun?

I heard the video replay and heard him say bushes and then he said he wasn’t sure where Martin came from. If media is saying on bushes they are misleading readers. He clarified his “bushes” comment by saying he was not sure where Martin came from.

Has anyone mentioned that if you’re on foot, and being followed by a truck thst keeps showing up wherever you turn–as GZ seems to indicate-- you might get fearful, and respond accordingly?

Re the bigger and bigger bandages, the property and casualty lawyers in my life say that injuries post-event often get worse–for some odd reason, i.e., lawsuit–as time marches on. People walk away from a car accident. A few days later they’re in traction. Except who was GZ going to sue? The Martin estate?

I haven’t read all the post so I don’t if this has been mentioned or not. During the audio interview they played at the trial today, GZ stated that when TM was on top of him,TM put his hand over his mouth and nose and said he(GZ) was going to die tonight. If that was the case and TM had already punched GZ in the nose prior to this, did the autopsy show blood from GZ on Travon Martin’s palm?

No, it didn’t.

right? shelluna.

Also, during the time when he was walking the police through the place, he doesn’t sound like he has a broken nose. Also, if you break your nose, you get black eyes. Do we have actual medical information that his nose was broken?

Without it, I don’t believe he had a broken nose.

No blood or any of GZ DNA found on TM, not even on TM clothing according the autopsy report. But The defense is going to say, the rain washed everything away. One of the big mistake by the police and the forensic team. Another point, if TM was covering GZ mouth, there should not be continuous scream by GZ.

latichever–I know, it’s amazing how GZ repeatedly says “he was staring at me” why would he do this? um because you were stalking him and he was afraid of you.

O Mara seems to have such a cozy rapport with this lead detective. Would the lead detective have any reason to present a positive view of GZ? would it help Sanford PD to do so?

ttparent, GZ said of the scream that “it doesn’t even sound like me.” And, personally, I think that’s because it’s not him. That high pitched scream is a boy, not a man.

“NewHope33 - I still don’t see any bushes.”

My theory is that they were photoshopped out. (Must have been a lot of work for someone, because there weren’t bushes in any of the photos I found online).

"ttparent, GZ said of the scream that “it doesn’t even sound like me.” And, personally, I think that’s because it’s not him. That high pitched scream is a boy, not a man. "

Sounds like that is where the prosecutor is going based on this morning voice expert. The parents/relatives/witnesses might be testifying about the voice. It is still very inconclusive to me, though. But if Zimmerman own statement says that he mouth was covered?

“One of the big mistake by the police and the forensic team.”

I thought razorsharp established that the police did a “competent and thorough investigation.” Clearly there were NO mistakes … never mind big ones!

(Anyone know a good plastic surgeon who can help me with this long pointy nose?)

I think it was the medical person who testified earlier that if you are on your back and have a bloody nose the blood will run into your throat and not out of your nose.

The medical person testified that she thought Zimmerman’s nose was broken but could not confirm it without x rays.

The picture of the bloody nose certainly looks like he broke his nose.

John Good testified that he saw Martin pushing downward on Zimmerman. That is consistent with Zimmerman’s claim that Martin covered his mouth as Zimmerman tried to continue yelling for help.

I read the suggestion that the yelling sounds were high pitched and sounded like those of a boy. If an adult yells for fear of his life, his voice may elevate and could sound like a younger person’s voice.

I didn’t watch the testimony but on CNN at least seems like good day for defense per commentators. Of course these folks often predict wrongly. And much morr trial to go likely.

The scream is very haunting and stopped immediately at the sound of the gun shot. If you are reaching for your gun and about to shoot the guy, would you be yelling at the top of your lungs saying help, help, help…

latichever–I know, it’s amazing how GZ repeatedly says “he was staring at me” why would he do this? um because you were stalking him and he was afraid of you.

O Mara seems to have such a cozy rapport with this lead detective. Would the lead detective have any reason to present a positive view of GZ? would it help Sanford PD to do so?

Razorsharp, there was no DNA evidence from GZ on TM. Sorry.
