Smells bother me less than texture. Can’t stomach okra and other slimy items, although I have no problem with slimy seafood like oysters and uni.
I love okra but I can’t stand the way rhubarb puts fur on my teeth.
Milk. UGGGGGGG…I can’t stand the sight of it in a glass and will gag if I get it on me. Been that way since childhood.
Okra - post nasal drip on a plate.
Certain chemical smells - I won’t go into a tire store, cheap shoe stores like Payless Shoe Source - they smell just like the tire store.
Oatmeal…another ugggg…was forced to eat it as a kid.
Yeah, bourbon and Coke here. LOL.
Meat that is being reheated.
Cigar smoke.
I used to hate the smell of curry, but now I love it.
Cheesecake’s texture has always bothered me.
I adore fettuccini alfredo, but the smell of the dishes in the dishwasher the next morning is enough to make me gag. I have learned not to let post-alfredo dishes sit in the dishwasher overnight, even if the machine is barely full. Other foods don’t bother me, though.
Also, cigarette smoke is the worst!
This thread has been making me salivate. I love many of the things mentioned. Many are in my fridge.
There are a few things I don’t like though. The ones that come to mind are:
Anything dill (pickles, relish, even a stir fry that had dill in it)
Sushi
Crab/Lobster
Clams/Muscles/Oysters/Conch - this one probably goes back to getting violently sick in my youth from a family clam roast
Hot peppers/spices of any sort - mild or light medium spice is ok
General Tso’s chicken
Tofu
Coffee as a drink
And for smells cigarettes/cigars/joints
Bunch of amateurs.
Durian. Tastes like heaven, smells like hell. Is actually banned from many public places in Asia.
Limburger cheese is almost as bad.
I forgot cigars! No way can I stomach it. Cigar smoke is truly obnoxious. It has ended wedding parties when the macho guys think they need to “enjoy” a cigar in celebration. And it doesn’t matter that they go outside–they’ve just destroyed half the party area. I’m always amazed at how clueless they appear.
Interesting that cigarette smoke (or after-smell on surfaces) is extremely bothersome, but cigar or pipe smoke is not.
I never understood the love affair with alcohol. It tastes like P.E. socks. I could develop an acquired taste to it, right? I mean, if I drank old sock juice long enough, I’ll eventually like the taste. I’ll pass. I don’t look sexy dancing on top of a table anyway.
Food: Brussels sprouts, broccoli, lima beans, peas, liver (beef, chicken - any sort) and burned microwave popcorn.
Other things: paper mills (lived too near one as a child and always hated when the wind shifted to blow the smell our way), formaldehyde (have had to leave certain fabric shops and can’t be in places with new carpet), cigarettes (but love the aroma of cherry pipe tobacco.)
Anything slimy like liver. I’m ok eating raw fish like ceviche but I once tried eel in sushi and I couldn’t eat it. Smells like cigarette smoking or burning wood gives me a headache
I discovered that I have a real problem with those air fresheners that you hang in cars- the cardboard ones that look like pine trees or whatever. Also- the air freshener gadgets for pet areas or bathrooms. They make me nauseous and I get a headache. I was really surprised, because I’m not particularly sensitive to things like that. I researched it and it turns out it’s pretty common with those chemicals.
Love cauliflower but the lingering odor in the kitchen- nope!
Definitely cooked eggs, especially scrambled. I have to leave the kitchen when H cooks them. Nauseating.
Scented laundry detergent or dryer sheets. I know it’s supposed to smell fresh or good but it really doesn’t. Really really doesn’t.
Another coffee avoider here. The smell of beans, freshly roasted and ground, is fine, but once brewed? Yuck. One of the things I loved about living in the UK was that tea was offered everywhere, but coffee was an afterthought, the opposite of where I live now.
I can’t stand coffee either but it’s not in the gag/ suck category for me.
Milk based drinks or puddings. Just writing it made my stomach flip.
I also can’t go near stores like Lush or scented candle stores. I instantly get a headache.
Curry. People like to tell me that I just haven’t had good curry, but no, I have been to some of best Indian restaurants (NY and London) and every time my stomach just wasn’t happy.
