For freshman FTIC applicants for 2010-2011, application live 8/3

As the title suggests, the target "go live" date for the online application for freshman applying for summer 2010 and fall 2010 set for August 3. I will update this thread with the timeline as it is reset for 2010-2011. No official application due dates or notification dates have been posted.

For those rising high school seniors, APPLY EARLY. Start working on the application once it goes live. Plan to hit "submit" by September 1. Really. In the early stages, your application gets a lot more attention.

Over the summer, start working on the resume that you will submit with your application. As soon as the essay topic is posted for this round, start working on that as well. Historically, the essay topics have changed from year to year. But the essay topic this past year was one that was rather unique to FSU, and I am suspicious that it may stay the same.

During your first week of high school classes, submit your transcript request and guidance counselor rec request. With the counselor rec request, ATTACH a copy of your resume. There may be important things about you that the counselor does not know, and would be helpful. You might consider attaching your essay for constructive criticism.

If you are a student who falls in the lower 25%tile for scores, or for grades, consider asking two teachers to send rec's. They are not required. I believe, however, that they are read and remain a part of your file. Write up a letter to your teachers to request they write a rec, and attach your resume. You might even attach your essay for suggestions/pointers/comments.

Things get busy as the school year starts up. So work on the application and the resume and the essay in August. Have a final draft for your counselor and/or teacher to review once school starts. Get the final working copies ready to go to submit with the application in early September.

Finally, if you need to raise your SAT or ACT, work on prepping over the summer, and take the FIRST test in the fall, in October. (I haven't checked dates but last year there were no Sept dates.) In the past, FSU has accepted an application as complete by the deadline as long as you had any scores to report. But they superscore, and in the past they have accepted the October scores and re-superscored the application before the final decision and in time for the first notification period.

I will update and bump this up as they post a new time line for the coming year.

Totally agree. Apply EARLY!

We are new at this... how do we find out prior year essay questions? or do we blindly create hopefully great essays. What are a couple of great sample essay questions to consider? Glad for any help.

Here you go.

[url=http://www.fsu.edu/students/prospective/admissions/requirements/essay.html]FSU Admissions | Essay & R

Last year my essay question asked how do you exemplify the FSU motto, Vires, Mores, and Artes.

Doesn't seem like they change the essay too much. It's been like that for 2(?) yrs?

I've not seen much change in the essay questions over the years.

My parents are making me apply to FSU although I have no intention of going. They want me to have a "safety" option instate.

I should just apply to UCF instead.

So what? ?

So hopefully I won't have to apply early if at all.

The deadlines are up on the timeline. Two admission cycles. First application deadline is October 14, 2009 for notification on December 9, 2009. Second deadline is January 20, 2010 for notification March 17, 2010. Looks identical to the 2008-2009 cycle with two periods, instead of the three of 2007-2008.
