We don’t have any homes in my town anywhere near $1 million for sale. There are million dollar homes in surrounding towns and cities though. I found an interesting one in a nearby city for $1.5 million:

When i moved here when the real estate boom was in full swing, I sat down and cried after looking at homes right under a million. I was selling my 4 bedroom colonial with familyroom, nice kitchen and finished basement and 3/4 of an acre in a nice neighborhood for a quarter million in the midwest and praying we got that. It wasn’t even going to quite make the down payment on our house in the NY area. With our kids, we wanted a good public school, access to DH’s job that wasn’t too time consuming of a commute, and since this was supposed to be a “moving up” situation, I really wanted an upgrade from the house I was leaving, a house that I really loved. Our house was nearly paid off, and I had been dreaming of some upgrades as we were a bit cramped since DH used one bedroom as an office and we frequently had long term guests with my mother and his, as well as other family members. There was only the powder room downstairs, and the two bathrooms upstairs were not always enough for everyone in the our house at times.

And then we were looking at homes here and they were 2/3 s the size, with hardly any yard, split levels, ranches, TLC homes, homes with problems at $1 million. They did all have 4 BRs and 2 1/2 baths but lacked the basement, and the rooms were much smaller than ours. Oh, how I cried, and did not want to move here.

That’s about what a million will get you in what is considered a “good” school district in the NYC suburbs. Go into the the not so good ones, and you can get pretty much what I left in the midwest but without the yard.

This:

There are some nice properties in this thread. It is interesting to see 300 acres in NH and condos in Seattle or NYC…

I had no idea Seattle could cost that much, but
I guess it makes sense with MSFT and AMZN.

Those Michigan houses look nice.

Those Palm Spring houses…that first one and the third one…I don’t know about those…
The second one looked good.

That first Manhattan place looked pretty good to me…

I am having a little trouble with BCEagle91’s link…
Ok…that is a fantastic place in NH.

BunsenBurner’s pick is very nice. Very very nice…

I don’t know about Oldfort’s pick…that is expensive…

This is what a mil buys you in a S.F. suburb of the east bay area:

[1930 OLD OAK Dr, Walnut Creek, CA 94595 | MLS# 40570774 | Redfin](http://www.redfin.com/CA/Walnut-Creek/1930-Old-Oak-Dr-94595/home/17169406#)!

This home was sold last summer, before the latest surge in home prices due to such low inventories.

Jshain, that is not bad.

I was told today that the bubble is back. People are doing the same thing they did in the bubble years. Overpaying. Using too much debt.

It is like 2007-2011 never occured.

Days on the market…3… Sales pending…

I was expecting something with bars on the windows.

I posted on another thread (dstark’s too)…I was told that I need to adjust my attitude because I wouldn’t get into a bidding war.

Here’s what you can get in an SF Peninsula/Silicon Valley suburb

[2251 Harvard St, Palo Alto, CA 94306 - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - realtor.com®](<a href=“2251 Harvard St, Palo Alto, CA 94306 | realtor.com®”>2251 Harvard St, Palo Alto, CA 94306 | realtor.com®)

Nice neighborhood, but tiny place and lot.

anxiousmom - it is only 785 sq ft, that’s smaller than NYC apartment. How could you get 2 bedrooms and baths out of that?

Think dorm room with private rooms where the room is somewhat larger than a twin bed.

Tiburon is bad…Palo Alto is worse. That Palo Alto property is awful…

I understand oldfort. I doubt I would ever get into a bidding war…well…I would have paid a little more for my place, but just a little.

The prices are exploding upward here…

Others are getting into bidding wars…
