Nrdsb4-
Whoa! Huzza huzza!! Wonder what it costs just to have those houses cleaned??

There are a slew of homes in our neighborhood for $ 1M and more. They are about 3 bedroom, 2 bath, single wall wood construction about 70 years old on about 7000 square feet if land, but hey, located on The island of Oahu in state of Hawaii.

No question California and Hawaii houses have to be the most expensive in America. The 1500 square foot San Mateo house in post #178, a nearly 60 year old tract ranch house with small galley kitchen asking $1.3 million is crazy…a similar house with the same nice appointments would go for about 1/10th that in Tampa Bay, Florida area. Location, location, location.

I know! I imagine just their monthly landscaping bill would be a mortgage for most people.

Sometimes I drive down Beverly Drive just to gape at the house porn. Sometimes I’ll see a young woman emerge, pushing a baby stroller, and I’ll think “what the HELL do these people do for a living?!?!”

That was probably the au pair with the baby. Mom was probably out getting a mani/pedi.

^^You have not seen the houses in Palo Alto yet, San Mateo is baby price compared to the king of the hill. It was on the news that a three car garage in Palo Alto sold for $800K at the height of the housing bubble, the same garage may have gotten back to that price in the recent upsurge!

Perhaps Dallas Cowboys? ^^

We will have a 49ers moving into our neighborhood. He is just a recent recruit, I am sure the babies will be small, if he has any.

The house in San Mateo is remodeled. Just for the record, It does not look like a 60 year old house inside. Another example is the house has solar. There isnt an electric bill. Homeowners get a credit.

artlovers/dstark, etc
you guys know of any affordable rentals (apt) in the Glen park area?

Jym626, sorry. I dont know that area that well.

jym, I think you should look into Craiges list to price out the rentals, I am not in the Glen Park market, cannot tell you much.

They are looking at craigslist. Need something bear BART and 280 in a cute part of town

The landlord did something I think may be illegal- but they wont push it. The potential landlord took an amazing amount of very personal info on the application (there were several people applying for the apt) and then decided to decline all the applicants and re-list the apt. The applicants (well at the ones I know) are imminently qualified (income/savings/rental history, etc). Isnt this discriminatory? We are worried it could be an identity theft scam!

dstark,

Any house in San Mateo is near that “Flinstone” house is worth more, but I still think that 1500SF house on 7800sf lot is over priced, regardless the interior and solar system. I am very familiar with house prices in the City of San Mateo or San Mateo County for that matter.

Your post is a little contradictory.

We will find out.

whose post is contradictory??

Post 195…

Actually it isnt. Sorry artloversplus. I misread your post.

^^ I always admire that “Flinstone” house on 280 when I pass it each time. I wish I had a chance to have a crack at it some times in my life. It will be well over 1M mark for sure.

Regarding Momsquad post 169- while I agree you don’t get much in Santa Barbara for a million dollars I would not call the neighborhood for that house marginal. That house is located in what is considered one of the better elementary school districts. For that price the house probably needs a bit of work.
[4488 Via Bendita | Santa Barbara Hope Ranch](http://listings.lindalorenzenhughes.com/listings/4488-via-bendita/) this house is over 1 million and will probably be a tear down but if it doesn’t go for over listing price it is a good deal for the neighborhood.
