I’m guessing someone called you stupid or something, considering your other thread “I hate when people think Knowledge = Intelligience”.

Everyone is called an idiot at one point or another. Just because it happens to great scientific minds, too, doesn’t mean that everyone called an idiot is a great scientific mind.

@Billy
Very true, But the former still exists.

Einstein was dyslexic. The more you know…

If you know you are actually smart–or at least think you are–and have been called stupid, why in hell would you care? At all?

I agree, I mean Michael Jordan didn’t even make the basketball team in high school.

I’m going to give a serious answer to this question. (Disclosure: I’m a parent, not a high school student.)

If you are a smart person, and some isolated incident occurs in which somebody calls you stupid, you should just shrug it off. If, however, there is a pattern of this–for example, if it appears that numerous teachers seem to think you’re not a good student–then you need to examine your behavior. It may be, of course, that you’re not as smart as you think, but let’s assume you are. Your problem could be that you’re sending signals that you think you’re smarter than your teachers, that you think you’re above doing the “useless busy work” of homework, etc. You may be sitting in the back of the class and never participating in class discussions because you think you don’t need to or because you’re bored. You may only study material that interests you or that you think will be useful to you–resulting in bad grades on tests of material that doesn’t interest you. If these things apply to you, they will result in people thinking you are stupid–and it will hurt you tremendously in the long run.
