Do the universities take into account the fact that I have only been on the country for a year and a half regarding my stats? or am I supposed to achieve the same as people who have been living here their entire life?
Your previous post indicates that you only want HYPS, so yes if you want to get into those schools you have to be exceptional. You half to surpass the people that have been here for their whole lives.
There are many international students that haven’t resided in the US all of their lives, and they have phenomenal stats and phenomenal EC’s, so to make the excuse that you’ve only been here for year is really weak one.
" I supposed to achieve the same as people who have been living here their entire life?"
Depends what you mean by “achieve the same” – yes, you have to have very high SATs, very good grades, and significant accomplishments outside the classroom. The Ivies – in fact, all schools – will take into account you haven’t been in the US very long. On the other hand, neither will many of other Ivy applicants, and they will all have high stats and impressive ECs. So while selective schools do make allowances, the competition is still brutal – and admission is (frankly) somewhat a matter of luck.
A better question would be to ask - would you feel comfortable and able to succeed at an elite school without strong essay writing skills and a wide vocab? Once classes start, things won’t be easy at HYPS if you’re not a very strong writer. International students are not separated into different classes. You will be working alongside native speakers who are at the top of their game.
Are you a junior or a senior?
