Former Natalee Holloway Suspect is Now a Suspect in Another Murder

He has an interest in just wanting to delay the conviction. I have read that he will be sent to another jail after conviction - one that will make the current one look like a country club.

As we are all parents here, it is hard to fathom the anguish this mother is suffering:

[Joran van der Sloot’s Mother, Anita van der Sloot, Says Son Must Be Punished If Involved in Peru Killing - ABC News](<a href=“Anita van der Sloot: Joran Not a Monster, But Must be Punished If Involved in Peru Killing - ABC News”>Anita van der Sloot: Joran Not a Monster, But Must be Punished If Involved in Peru Killing - ABC News)

This is not to diminish in any way the worse anguish of the Flores and Holloway parents.

You’re right Soozie. When presented with their beautiful newborn babies, no mother says “I’m fine with him growing up to be a murderer.”

^^^So, true…nobody could every imagine their kid would do these things, particularly back when they were cute little kids.

But in any case, the mom was trying to get Joran into a mental health institution in the Netherlands when he fled to Peru. She knew he had problems and was trying to get help but he is an adult.

"This is not to diminish in any way the worse anguish of the Flores and Holloway parents.:

I believe that learning that one’s beloved child were a cold blooded murderer would be comparable to learning that one’s beloved child had been killed.

A friend of mine who herself had lost a 6-year-old grandson and an adult daughter to murder recently went to a murder trial in which she knew the mothers of the victim and the perpetrator. My friend chose to sit with the perpetrator’s mother because my friend said that she felt that of the two mothers, the perpetrator’s mother was the least likely to receive support from others.

I just put on that disclaimer because I didn’t want anyone to think this mom’s anguish was more important than those of the parents whose children were murdered. I was just saying that this is pretty terrible for this mom too. And yes, this mom will likely receive less support than the other moms involved.

There are no winners here - it’s lose, lose, lose, and big time.

One factor to consider - was his mom aware of facts that the prosecutors don’t have regarding Natalee, and did she choose to shield him at her family’s expense? I’m not saying I wouldn’t have done any differently. Cannot really accurately predict what I would have done if I had a chance to shield my child or see to it that justice is done, but if the past implications that his well connected family/dad had a hand in him getting away, then perhaps she does know more, and she doesn’t merit the same level of sympathy that the victims’ families deserve whether or not she was trying to get him treated.

I’m glad to see that his mom is not in denial this time (of course she doesn’t have her H to direct the lies.

I don’t think the mom was aware of the shielding that went on between the dad and Joran. I don’t think the dad would have trusted the mom not to accidentally give things away.

The dad was an atty; he would likely know better than to let his wife in on the lies. He probably knew that she would do a better job defending her some if she really thought he was innocent.

I think she’s “done the math” with this situation. The family already spent a lot of money with Joran’s defense with the Holloway case. She probably realizes that she can’t afford to throw away her limited money on a losing case. She has 2 younger sons to consider.

Van der sloot has filed a complaint against Peruvian authorities, claiming he was arrested without a warrant and not provided with a translator.

^^^I read earlier today (sorry to not have the article to quote) that the Peruvian authorities were very very careful to cross all their t’s and dot all their i’s in how they dealt with the interrogation and so on during the arrest. They had a defense attorney, prosecutor and translator present.

Yesterday saw on TV that Joran’s father accompanied him to the casinos (he was underage) and made sure that he had a line of credit and a bar tab OK’d…ridiculous. Didn’t the mother know all of this?

An international defense expert states that van der Sloot’s legal strategy shows him to be a “complete moron.”

I said this on the World Cup thread, but it may be more appropriate here. There is a great player on the Netherlands national soccer team who looks like he could be Joran’s brother.

Wesley Sneijder is his name, and I kind of get the creeps when I see him (which is often, as he scores lots of goals). I wonder if anyone has ever mentioned the resemblance to him.

Here’s a couple of photos:

I can see how someone might see a resemblance, but had I not been looking for some similarity I don’t think I would have seen any.

Joran is creepier looking.

"July 19) – Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch native charged with killing a Peruvian woman and extorting money from the mother of missing U.S. teen Natalee Holloway, may have even more legal problems ahead.

Earlier this month, the National Enquirer reported on van der Sloot’s alleged involvement in sex trafficking in Thailand. Now Peru’s minister of justice has confirmed that Thai authorities are pursuing criminal charges against van der Sloot, according to CBS News.

Holloway, an 18-year-old from Alabama, disappeared on a trip to Aruba in 2005. She was last seen leaving a nightclub with van der Sloot, who was then living in Aruba. Following Holloway’s disappearance, van der Sloot reportedly traveled to Bangkok, where he posed as a modeling agency consultant, the tabloid reports.

Some of the girls he allegedly approached have disappeared and have never been found, according to the Enquirer."

I saw those articles, Northstarmom… think of how many young women are better off with him locked up even if half the allegations against him are true…

This must be torturous info for the Holloway family. Do they hope that happened to their daughter on the remote chance she could be alive or do they hope, even with that chance, she was murdered on the island? None of the choices are bearable.
