PG: I agree. Raping someone unconscious beside a dumpster is about as horrific an act as I can imagine. The reason to discuss his other shortcomings is so we don’t fall into the, “oh he was such a nice boy” trap. The more we learn, the less a nice boy Turner seems to have been. The more that comes out about him, the less it is possible to feel sorry for him and excuse what he did - rape someone unconscious. And run away when someone said “hey” to him. And then lie. And claim he thought she was into it. And blame it all on alcohol and party culture.
He has changed his life forever. Maybe this story keeps others from doing something similar. It lets people who find this sort of behaviour understandable, due to campus alcohol abuse and hook-up culture, understand that a whole lot of people don’t excuse rape at all.
KarenK6, I do not recall any mention of a frat party. But it seems as though you are suggesting frats randomly roofie girls at parties. Are you suggesting it might have happened to Hannah Graham and it might have happened to Emily Doe? The case you sight is a specific guy drugging a particular girl. Frats randomly drugging girls is not something I have heard. Targeted yes, random, no. But if you have further information I would love to hear it.
She was exposed, naked and unconscious, to many people that night. She had dirt in her hair and in her vagina. That is a further violation. imho.

I worked with someone who ran a support group for survivors of rape (they did not use the word “victim”). One of their exercises was to re-empower themselves by imagining what they would like the punishment for the perpetrator to be. The one that I recall was the desire to have someone take a dull potato peeler and slowly and painfully whittle away his member.

Hannah’s killer had a history of sexual misconduct as a football player/student at several colleges before his life near UVA, according to reports. So, again, we see more traces of rape culture in colleges.
My daughter went to orientation recently. One of the senior boys warned her group that the risk of being raped is real, and he personally knew 4 girls who had been raped. That was shocking enough, but even more shocking to me was that he said all 4 cases involved their drinks being spiked!!

I don’t agree that the photo bit is ‘so minor’. If they had all the evidence, that could be a distribution of pornography charge. Remember the Erin Andrews peeping tom case. He distributed her naked photos and that was a serious crime. Not minor by any means

She’s a mature college grad who went to a frat party. She is of legal age to drink. She got blackout drunk. She agreed to go back to his dorm late at night. They were both sloppy drunk, she stumbled on the ground outside of his dorm. They started hooking up on the ground. She apparently passed out.
And because he wasn’t convicted of raping her with his penis doesn’t mean he didn’t do it. From the description given in police reports by the guys who stopped him, he was in the process of just such a rape.
I don’t understand why people would believe the perp’s statement, word for word, when there are independent witnesses who refute it.

@choirsandstages, any further info. Were they at a party, was it an idividual. I know of a girl that was assaulted, found on her dorm floor in a hall bathroom, dumped on the floor, bloodied. She was unconscious. The hospital would not do a rape kit or tox screening without her consent. The RA insisted that the police NOT be called. Girl has drug testing done1-2 days later and they found evidence of GHB. RA reiterated that noone could call police or say anything afterwards. I know this girl was apparently at a frat earlier in the evening. I have wondered if this frat procured the drug and kept a special type of punch for girls only. Seems awful, but what you are telling me is that drugging girls is widely known.
