Waitlisted at Bates, rejected from Middlebury

Regular decision at Middlbury is brutal. They take a ton of the class early.

Same story with Bates.

that’s just so disheartening, because at the waitlisted schools i keep wondering “i probably would’ve gotten in ED” but we don’t know. :frowning:

On the other hand i know highly qualified girls rejected from Middlebury in ED so it is hard either way. Congrats on your acceptances!

You can’t worry about it - you don’t apply ED to a school that’s not your top choice.

You’ve applied to a heavy list - so it’s likely there will be rejections. At the same time, Union and F&M are both semi top LACs.

btw - last year Bates admitted 1164 kids - and Waitlisted 2198 of which 855 joined and 68 got off.

So they wait list far more than they accept - which is a common practice for many schools - so I wouldn’t look back at - well if I applied ED - because if it wasn’t your top choice what would be the point?

The reason they WL so many is - they’re really saying - we cannot admit you (and yes RD likely plays a part) but if for some reason we don’t get the yield we want - then we need more kids - and that’s when we go to a Wait List. It’s a hedge, an insurance policy for them.

Focus on the schools that are giving you love!! And Union just gave you a lot of love!!

You want to be at a school that keeps you busy (in your first message) - so after all your acceptances are in - you can start revisits or talking to student ambassadors and find out - about activities and other things - to find the school you most mesh with.

Congrats on your great offer so far. Remember, you can only go to one - so even if the day doesn’t go your way, you’re still in a fantastic place.

Edit - just see now you have CC - so very different environments - but three awesome LACs plus Stony!! Congrats!!

Congrats on all the great acceptances and $$$$! There is nothing wrong with staying on any WL’s if you want to, though they would be full pay if any came through. Enjoy your spring and relax!

i will! and my parents are fine paying full tuition if it’s a school i really like and would be a good fit at. but the money is nice and definitely makes me feel wanted. gosh this whole process is so exhausting, even the acceptances.

hmmm - i hope you were excited before you chose them!!

Just read (on a schools that moved up or down after visiting thread) - a parent took a young many to Drew and he wasn’t interested whatsoever - and yet after visiting, was ready to enroll.

You really need to check things out. You have very respected names in the bag - but attending a school based on reputation alone and not fit won’t make for a great four years. Your family can pay but you’ve got discounted options - which is a bonus since they’ll save for you.

You say you have ADHD (who can provide services) and you said - get bored easily, so whether the school is rural or urban, it would be beneficial if the school had a lot of opportunities near or on campus.

So now you go to see who can meet this need - but you should have been excited before applying or why apply? When you make visits, hopefully you’ll feel at home like this young man just did after visiting Drew (and he didn’t even want to visit).

Get jacked up - you are IN DEMAND!!!

And you will shine!!!

I liked the schools before i applied, but didn’t truly fall in love with any of them. i didn’t truly imagine myself there. so now i am and looking at some course catalogs and stuff. definitely makes me feel so much better about all of these schools, i think my mom rly likes union and f&m lol

we’re gonna schedule some revisits

also since i want to run at all the d3 schools, i might start reaching out to coaches from the schools i got accepted to so i can learn abt their programs. my mom also said its a good idea so ill probably do that once my brain calms down in a few days.

So where are you accepted so far – Connecticut College, Franklin & Marshall, and Stony Brook (university scholars)?

Those are three great options.
