Foundation (makeup, not undergarments) suggestions? Jane Iredale brand?

I’m liking my Clinique better glow. I got it because of a special. I also use Chanel

Not familiar with Jane Iredale but I switched from pressed powder to liquid foundation some time in my mid40s. I used IT Cosmetics CC cream in medium for quite a number of years, I recently switched to Estee Lauder Double Wear. I really like the fact that the CC cream has sun screen in it but prefer the color and finish of the EL slightly more. I use my fingers to apply and then use a blending sponge as needed. I recommend both.

Haven’t quite found a primer I love so I appreciate the suggestions.

@collage1 I hate foundation with sunscreen – the Estee Lauder does not have it? May need to try it.

I love all Tarte cosmetics; their primer is great.

^^what do you hate about it? I haven’t noticed a difference in the feel and like the extra coverage.

@collage1 I don’t like the additional chemicals, don’t wear sunscreen much.

@taverngirl , the Estee Lauder Double Wear does not have sunscreen. It used to in the beginning, but they removed it at some point. I never even noticed the difference and didn’t know they had removed it until I read about it on some blog! I highly recommend getting a sample and trying it.

If you can, go to Ulta and try several foundations. I love that store for the vast array of products you can sample before buying. I am an IT fan. I use the Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer, Bye Bye Undereye concealer, no-tug waterproof gel eyeliner, the moisturizers, brushes, brush cleaner- all of it. I’m really lucky that an IT rep who works in my store is around my age and is very knowledgeable about many different brands. She has done up my face maybe four times with various looks and techniques. Anyway, I like the moisturizing foundation because you can apply it in thin layers to get the coverage level you desire. I feel like it makes my skin look dewy but not greasy.

@collage1 and @musicmom1215 - another friend is suggesting EL as a foundation - with a Trish McEvoy product ($$$!!!) as a primer. She uses the double wear formulation for her under eye concealer, but the foundation she uses is one called “Perfectionist.” It has a sunscreen. Has anyone tried that one?

I am going to make a trip to Ulta to see what I can find. I really have not had the best experiences in that store, having found the salespeople to be super pushy. I don’t like being in rewards/points systems, and they push that hard.

Thanks for all the suggestions. There are so many choices, and I appreciate having had some winnowing done ahead of time. :slight_smile:

To add one more: Glossier has some great stuff. I haven’t tried their version of foundation yet, but I love their Haloscope and Boy Brow products. I think they are only available online. (It’s a trendy millennial company, but their stuff works for us old people, too.)

I’ve been using Josie Maran argan Moonstone Drops as a primer. A friend told me about it, so I gave it a try and it’s fabulous. Makes the foundation glide on and gives my skin a diffused glow. A little goes a long way, so a bottle lasts about six months. I’ve used just about every primer and this one is fantastic. Amazon sells it or Sephora.

Any suggestions for eyelid primer? I’m using Armani right now and it’s just ok, and have used Laura Mercier and Urban Decay - all just ok. My skin, especially around the eyes, is ultra sensitive, so I have to be careful. I cannot use Chanel products for some reason. I’m also looking for a better mascara - have tried a zillion brands. I using Dior right now.

@Gourmetmom

I’ve been pleased with Clinique Lash Power ($19.50) – I feel like I can put on a thin coating & get a natural look.

I also like L’Oreal Voluminous Feline Noir mascara ($9.99)

@Hoggirl

This is the brush cleaner I use from IT Cosmetics. It’s expensive & I resent that it works so well lifting the IT CC+ cream off my brush like magic. I’d rather not spend the $$.

@psychmomma

I have not tried this IT product. I have been using the CC+ Cream.

Is it more like a foundation or a tinted moisturizer???

I have not tried it, but I’ve read about the “primer hack” of using Monistat Chafing Powder Gel as a primer.

Some people rave, some people say it causes breakouts, no idea how it works on aging skin.

I’ve been using cheap BB creams as everyday foundation for the past few years, and they work well for me. If I want to look a little better, adding some “photo finish” (Tarte?) is enough. I am 59 with few wrinkles but several small scars to minimize.

I like Laura Mercier tinted illuminating moisturizer. I stopped using foundation and primer a few years ago because my skin started to breakout (even though I’m older than dirt). This moisturizer covers imperfections; it’s also lightweight and doesn’t make my skin look pasty. Another plus is that it has SPF

Clinique must have changed their formulas for tinted moisturizer which I used for years. About 3 years ago it just started feeling awful. Same with their powder blush which I had used for years. Plus they discontinued the color I liked.

Powder foundations settle in the lines on my face, so I haven’t used one in years (was using MAC for a long time).
I use Tarte shape tape foundation when I want full coverage. I apply with the applicator and then blend with a paddle brush. Underneath I use a squalene oil and IT confidence…moisturizer. Removing it takes more than a swipe with a remover cloth - usually micellular water on a cotton pad, followed by The Ordinary cleanser.

To clean makeup brushes (the foundation really does a number on them), I use facial oil (from TJs) on one of those silicone brush pads and then follow with a solid brush cleaner (the ulta brand works well).

I have a compact foundation from IT that’s nice, but definitely lighter coverage. I’ll use a primer, typically Smashbox photo finish, under it to make it last through the day.

To be honest, it was after I tried to clean the foundation brush with regular cleaner and it didn’t work that I came to the conclusion that I needed more to get it off my skin.

@Midwest67 - I’ve use that Monistat anti-chafing as a primer. I do think it works well, but I also felt like it clogged my pores. I feel like everything clogs my pores. They are large, and I have some acne scarring as well. Boo.

I buy makeup from Sephora.

I really wouldn’t buy from Amazon. Their issues with forgeries, fakes, etc. are way out of control.
