@Midwest67 It’s more like a tinted moisturizer, but it is capable of good coverage. My skin can breathe with it on. The CC+ Cream definitely gives a uniform coverage and makes my skin completely even looking - but also to me, it looks like I have full face makeup on. I do own that kind too, but only use it for special occasions where I want a full dramatic makeup look.
My favorite eyeshadow primer isn’t sold as a primer. MAC Paint Pots, color Painterly. The make-up artist who did our make-up for DD’s wedding used it, and I love it!
My current face primer is made by Mary Kay. It goes on so smoothly, and a bonus is that it has SPF.
I’m following this thread closely, because I’m always open to new and different options. I’m especially open to a new foundation and a tinted moisturizer.
Florida environment here too. I also have large pores, freckles, acne scars. I use ELF tone adjusting primer, Clinique Beyond Perfecting- it is a Foundation+Concealer. I find the coverage to be excellent and if I put a translucent powder to “set” the foundation, it lasts a very long time in the heat and humidity. I use either L’Occitane Precious cleansing cleaner or Cetaphil foam cleanser. For cleaning brushes, I find that ELF works well.
@ECmotherx2 - thank you so much! Where does one buy the ELF brand?
Love the Monistat Chafing Gel to keep my blister prone feet from rubbing. It does has the same properties of my primer. Hmmm… gonna give it a go.
A few years back my sister saw it in my toiletry bag and asked if I was having “lady problems.” I read about it in a shoe forum.
@Hoggirl, ELF has it’s own website but I just ordered the primer @ECmotherx2 recommended at Target to be picked up tomorrow.
@Gourmetmom - after trying multiple higher end mascaras, I have been using Maybelline’s Snapscara lately. It’s similar to Clinique’s Power Lash, in that it stays on, but washes off with warm water. I don’t end up with racoon eyes or smudges.
I’m not great with makeup but have also been loving the IT Bye Bye foundation. Gives me enough coverage without feeling like too much makeup on.
I. Need a new moisturizer. As i’ve gotten older the Clinique Dramatically Different leaves my face feeling too dry.
Elf is carried by Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Kohls, and Ulta. These are the places that I know of. I also use their brushes and brush cleaner.
I like the IT Your Skin But Better CC Cream or Loreal True Match foundation. For eyeshadow primer, I like Milani’s. I apply foundation with a damp Sonia Kashuk beauty blender from Target. I like these better than the regular Beauty Blenders.
Hourglass has a good primer.
I no longer buy makeup or vitamins from Amazon. Ulta and Sephora usually have good sales.
Olay has good moisturizers.
This is not the primer that I use. I would use this as a setting spray to put on top of your makeup but it says that it can be used before applying.
But this is a great deal, today only and free shipping. $19 usually $32
I use a setting spray when I know that it’s a long day and I’d like things from fading and sliding off lol!

@Gourmetmom I’ve have tried every mascara around, both expensive and inexpensive. A friend, who is a vegan, recommended Thrive cosmetics, because Thrive does no animal testing.
The Thrive mascara (liquid lash extensions mascara) looked interesting, so I tried it and loved it. I have not used any of the company’s other cosmetic products. Here is the website:
https://thrivecausemetics.com/collections/eyes/products/liquid-lash-extensions-mascara.
I used Chanel mascara until it started coming off under my eyes. I don’t know if something changed with me or maybe they changed their formula but it was time to find something new. Now I use Trish McEvoy mascara and love it! It’s a tubing mascara (like Thrive above) and never budges until I wash off with water. It comes in 2 varieties - high volume and curling. The formulation is the same but the brushes are different. I found that I like to start with the volume and then go back over with the curling one for lots of length.
Tubing mascara forms little tubes around the lashes that slip off with water. I love that I no longer stain my nice white towels with mascara. All I do is hold the wet washcloth on my eyes for a few seconds and wipe the tubes off. It looks like a lot of little black hairs on the cloth and they rinse right off.
Agreed! I had forgotten about the Trish McEvoy mascara! I liked everything about it except the price! Haha!
That’s why I like Snapscara by Maybelline - it’s also a tubing formula, but at a drugstore price!
If you want great makeup and skincare advice I love hotandflashy on youtube. Great channel for mature women.
Only foundation that works for me is the IT cosmetics CC+ cream. Doesn’t settle into the eye lines.
I’m currently using Jane Iredale. It was recommended by the ocular plastic surgeon after the blepharoplasty. Initially they recommended it be applied with fresh damp sponge for each eye. I ordered a refill from Amazon without an issue.
I also keep two Clinique bases in my stash — Balanced and CC cream. I’m pretty serious about sunblock so I wore CC cream most of the time before the September eye surgery.
I finally made it to Ulta today! I went with EL Perfectionist and the Double Wear concealer. She gave me a sample of the Double Wear Foundation as well but said she uses that one in the summer here in Florida. I like that the Perfectionist has a sunscreen in it. I also bought EL Advanced Night Repair. The woman helping me (who of course had gorgeous skin and was 15 years younger than I) said she uses it under her foundation during the day as well as a treatment at night. She was the LEAST pushy person I have every encountered at Ulta and was very helpful. I had planned to go with the Clinique one that @ECmotherx2 had recommended, but they didn’t have my shade in stock. She also suggested I NOT use a powder at all if I was trying to achieve “dewy.” Dewey? SP?
We shall see! I appreciate the help and suggestions!
BTW, I use Bad Girl Bang for mascara. It does have the fibers in it, so some may not care for that aspect of it.
I finally picked up a tube of Snapscara by Maybelline. I like it! Thanks for the tip!
If you’re looking to switch foundation brands and want to know which shade to get…my D told me about a site called Findation.com which lets you put in the shade you wear in one brand and it shows you the equivalents in other brands.
For example (i’m making up shade names):
You wear Light Ivory #27 in Mac and you want to know what the equivalent color is in a drugstore brand (which you can’t try on). You go on Findation and put in Mac liquid foundation in light ivory #27 and it will pull up all the equivalents in other brands. You can even narrow it down so it only shows certain brands. Like you can have it show you only CoverGirl or only Revlon or only MAC…
