Four Days in NYC

campbellmom, I saw Jersey boys (in Los angeles which was so funny to hear them talk about the jersey shore) so I would vote to go see it.

I also saw Lion King and it is pretty breathtaking. Has a longer lasting impression than Jersey boys.

And I believe Time out is on line so you can look at it now.

Cosi? You can go there in any city, lol…seriously, i go to one near City Hall in Philly

I know you can, we have one here too, that’s why I said i’m a dork for liking to do that in NYC. :)

I’ve seen both Jersey Boys and Memphis. I far preferred Jersey Boys.

Took my 3 boys to see Jersey Boys and they loved it, so that would be my recommendation. I should have jumped in sooner about the Yankee tickets. Did your DH buy them on StubHub or directly from the Yankees web site. For that price you should be sitting on the Main Level (not the Field Level, but not upstairs in the terrace or grandstand either.) If he got seats on the field level for that price, he did really well! :)

Enjoy! My DH works at the 30 Rock building and suggests that over the Empire State Bldg simply based on the fact that it’s a much nicer area to tour generally.

Loved the connection with Jersey Boys and Joe Pesci…Joe Pesci character in Goodfellas was named after one of the Jersey Boys, Tommy Devito…Joe Pesci is one of the producers of Jersey Boys, and helped form the Jersey Boys,by intoducing Bob Gaudio to Frankie Castelluccio, aka Frankie Valli

We got Peter and the Star Catcher tix for about $60 at the TKTS booth. Same for “The Best Man” (revival of 1960’s political play with an amazing cast). Peter has music in it and is non-stop action with very inventive staging. We all loved it.
We opted for them because each was a play (versus a musical) and we didn’t have to stand in line very long.
TLK, Wicked and Jersey Boys have touring versions so they may come to a theater near you (and I’d suggest them!) and so you don’t need to necessarily catch them on BW.
Avenue Q is really funny (bit off color but really funny).

Agreed. Reasonably priced tickets. Also always available at a discount at TKTS. A great, comfortable theatre which is an easy walk from Times Square. Very talented cast and the better of the two Bobby Lopez shows currenty running, in my opinion. The other being Book of Mormon.

Here’s the TKTS list from last week:

For deals on food, look into scoutmob dot com Also savored dot com

Scoutmob has an app that you will show you deals in areas you are in. Savored let you make restaurant reservations and get 30% off for a lot of times.

Another thing that may be fun for your family is to rent bikes in Battery Park, then ride the bike path that goes along the entire length of the Hudson. Car free and GREAT NYC people watching.

I just bought tickets for 2 hr schooner sailing around NyC on Groupon, 50% off. I have never done circle line, this will be my first.

I know OP said she is a vegetarian, but there is a burger place, Jackson Hole. The one around E 60s was the original, I think. You could a big burger for $6, all the pickles you want to eat (best crunchy pickles), and beer/wine for few dollars.

I second LurkerDad’s suggestion of the High Line park. It is delightful, and so unique.

We decided on Jersey Boys and I got the tix this morning. We won’t be sailing because we sail regularly in SF Bay, but the Circle Line looks good, unless you would recommend a better cruise. Now onto mapping what is close to what and how to fit it all in. I think we are going to be exhausted.

Thank you for all the food suggestions. I’ll get to that last, but appreciate the inside scoop.

We are in section 232 for the Yankees game. It looks like H bought through yankees.com or ticketmaster. We probably could have gotten good tix for less. I bargain-hunt and take a long time to purchase things once I’m satisfied I’ve gotten a decent deal, and he does things lightning fast, even if he pays more.

What does one do on Wall Street? Just walk around? My S wants to see it but I don’t know what you do. Also, what do you think of a Central Park bike tour? Is this preferable over just renting bikes on our own?

To be honest, I’ve been to the Highline a few times and it is pleasant but not worth going out of your way for.

And I have also eaten at Jackson Hole, very good food.

Re: vegetarians and burgers. We aren’t vegetarians, but when the pink slime thing came out…we stopped eating them out until we were assured that the burger was “pure”. When we went to In n Out here we ordered our “burgers” sans meat, but with cheese and all the trimmings. Terrific.

These days you just wander around Wall Street. In the old days (pre-9/11) you went into see the stock exchange in action which was very exciting and a real eye-opener. Not much you can “see” now. They hardly let us get up close to the outside of the buildings last time we visited. Still, it’s a different vibe than rest of NYC and worth visiting.

Agree with gouf re: wandering around Wall St. Perhaps go to the South St. Seaport for a nice water view of Brooklyn Heights??
Jersey Boys is FABULOUS!
Re: Yankee game. Eat before! We end up spending soooo much on the food and beer. On the other hand a beer and hot dog at Yankee Stadium can’t be beat.
To above poster re Joe’s Shanghai. I was in Shanghai and had the most delicious soup dumplings. If Joe’s are anything like those, run, don’t walk to get them. I think I have to make a trip into the city next week to try them out!

The first half of Circle Line is interesting - you leave Hudson River side in 30s/40s & head south, then up the East River. After the UN at 42nd street & the East River, it’s pretty boring. If you want to get on the water, I would hop on the Staten Island ferry to relax for an hour.

You can also ride the ferry to Governour’s Island, a ten minute free ride and stroll around the old fort and take great pics of NY. Operates in the summer only.

Probably already mentioned, but you can get free tickets to see the 9/11 Memorial , the pools and museum are very moving, and the beautiful Freedom Tower is almost completed. Be prepared for thorough security screening before entry.

You can also get off the Staten Island Ferry on Staten Island and see the completed 9/11 memorial there. Or take in a minor league baseball game.

Or go to Coney Island and see the Cyclones play minor league ball.

Earlier I saw OP got tix for 9/11 memorial at night. Is that right? It will be amazing at night.
