Four Days in NYC

Yes, we got tix for 6pm, so not really night, but only evening slots were open. One baseball game is enough for me and we are seeing the Yankees.

You can also rent bikes in central park. I wouldn’t do a tour, just ride around. You can do the main perimeter in a big circle. It’s one way  Just get a map from the bike rental people. It’s also a great bike ride, so much to see. Tourists, new Yorkers, bikers , joggers, walkers, etc. You’ll go past the lake, and the reservoir, and the lawn. So much to see in CP, and you can cover soon much more ground on a bike.

You can combine a walk around the wall street with a walk over the Brooklyn bridge. Not really much to see around wall st. South st seaport there, but that is all very touristy, and full of chains. Or wall st with battery park, and then a trip on the free staten island ferry. Much better than the circle line I think. Get the feel of the view, cheaper, and not as time committing.

Soho is nice, but full of expensive shops as well as chain stores.

Wander through the east and west village.

I didn’t read the whole thread, so I apologize if this is a duplicate, but Eataly is a lot of fun if you can go during the week. It’s just too crowded on weekends! Eataly is basically a huge Italian gourmet market located on Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street, in the Flatiron District (probably my favorite area). There’s a rooftop beer garden where you can have lunch or dinner, or just sample the beer. On the main level, you can buy any kind of Italian product, be it pasta or cheeses, gelato, espresso, pizza. You can have a sit-down meal too at several restaurants. Just bring your checkbook, because the prices are pretty insane. You can relax before or after in Madison Square Park, right across the street. Have a wonderful trip!

For shopping, we really like NoLita. We also had fun at this market in Brooklyn:

South Street Seaport is not very New Yorky, in my opinion. Don’t eat chain food in New York!

Hunt: maybe so, Hunt, about South Street Seaport, but all the young people I know in the city (including my D) spend a lot of time there. And there is a Museum of Sex there, but I don’t think it warrants more than one visit.

The fun part of the Seaport (Pier 17) is watching the people performing outside. Lots of fun. It’s also nice to sit outside on one of the decks on the north or east side, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the view of the Bridge and Brooklyn. The last time I was there, most of the shops inside weren’t really worth visiting. Years ago, there was a terrific Christmas store there but, unfortunately, that’s long gone.

campbellmom,
Sorry I hadn’t seen your post about the Yankee game earlier or I would have steered your DH to StubHub to buy tickets cheaper and better seats. Oh well. You are sitting on the main level out in left field near the foul pole. If it’s a day game you’re going to, be prepared for sun on you if it’s a sunny day, so be prepared with sunscreen/hat/baseball cap, etc. There is quite a selection of food at Yankee Stadium, but it isn’t cheap. If you are interested in going to a nearby deli to pick up sandwiches, let me know and I’ll explain where it is. They will allow you to bring in a sealed bottle of water up to 1 liter in size (per person)

What row are you sitting in at Yankee Stadium? From about Row 12 and back, you will be underneath the Terrace level above you, so you may avoid some of the sun issues if it’s a day game.

I didn’t read through the whole thread, so sorry if someone already posted this…

The NBC Studio tour is one of my favorite things to do with out of town friends. You get to see the SNL stage, and various other studios (I saw Jimmy Fallon, I think). The tour guides are hilarious. I’d suggest going to the Top of The Rock while you’re there. The view is better than the top of the Empire State Building IMO.

My dad worked at Rockefeller Center for 20 years. He’s been gone for a while. I haven’t been able to go back, but maybe I will.

I noticed War Horse was on the TKTS list. If you can get those - GO! It is unlike any other play you will ever see. D1 took theater appreciation last year and it was the main show they say. We were able to purchase tickets for $50 (retail value $125). They were last row in the balconey, but dead center and we didn’t miss a thing.

Not sure if Governor’s Island has been mentioned, but it’s been refurbished and open to the public and FREE! Great views of Lower Manhattan.
