free healthcare?

Do indian students on student visa get
Free health care or is it only for canadian citizens?

Also
Is there a dirrerence between canadian citizen and being permanent resident of canad?
Am i missing something?

Also
As a student is it fine/legal to start working part time as sokn as I land in canada?

Also are taxes same for student visa guys and canadian citizens? Or are they more?

Help please…thank you :)

No, “free” health care is not available to student visa holders.

There is a big difference between permanent resident and Canadian citizen. A student visa holder is a very different status than the other two.

The rules for student visas changed last month. See this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-changes.asp

Well are you really sure because majority of students might be working part time and hence paying canadian taxes which facilitates free healthcare for all…just unfair, maybe?

The amount of taxes paid by someone working part time would not cover their health care expenses. Visitors do not get the same benefits as citizens. Not unfair at all.

Well makes sense…thanks for the response :)

You need to check with the provincial health system in the province in which you’ll be studying. It varies province to province. International students are required to have health insurance and most do so through private health insurance coverage. By the way, healthcare is not “free” in Canada. It is paid for through general tax revenues and employer contributions.

As someone on a student visa, you will not be a permanent resident nor a citizen, and you cannot apply for either of those while on a student visa. When you obtain your student visa, the rules about working part-time will be explained to you. It’s important that you follow these rules carefully, or your visa may be revoked.
