Friday Night Lights is over

Anyone else watch it? Anyone else shed a few tears? I will miss it. Not sure how I started watching it or why I continued. But I liked watching the Taylors. And I liked the ending. And yes, marriage is all about compromise.

I love that show! I was home, but I recorded it. I can’t watch it yet because I’m not ready for it to be over!

I bawled like a baby, numerous times. Such a true depiction of small-town Texas. Well, aspects of it. I’ve watched episodes here and there but was loyal this season knowing it would be the last. Ds2 and I will really miss it. But at least we still have Parenthood.

It was indeed a great show!

They play football everywhere in the country, but few places in the United States end up having their mood for the entire following week decided by a victory or a loss by the Waxahachie East Panthers.

Of course, the show was not all about football. But it depicted it as well as anyone could.

Loved the show and am delighted that FNL, Kyle Chandler, and Connie Britton are nominated for Emmys. I guess I’ll just have to start going to high school football games again to fill the void!

I have watched every single episode and I am just really sad right now that it is over. I loved the characters and felt like I knew them all. What a great show and what a great ending.

Wonderful show - I also never missed an episode. So well done from every aspect. And a pretty much perfect ending.

Great movie.

And even better book - which goes much deeper into small town Texas life, politics and culture. If you were caught up by the show, definitely read the book.

The ending was perfect. I liked that when he threw the ball you didn’t know whether they won or lost. sigh

Oh but you could tell. I don’t want to give it away in case there are those that haven’t watched it yet, but think of the scenes back in Dillon AFTER the pass.

We loved FNL. We bought the season 5 dvd after watching 3 weeks of it on tv. We finished it quite a while ago, but when I saw the final episode was on tv tonight I had to watch it again. What a fantastic series. I’m so sorry it’s over. I was pleased with how the loose ends were tied up.

I know we learn eventually. I’m saying we didn’t see the direct outcome of the play.

SportsMama, you better go watch ASAP!

Please, because I have a question about one part of the ending.

I started tearing up as soon as the introductory theme started playing and nearly lost it completely when Mattie’s Grandma offered Julie her dress. I adored the show and wish it had found the audience it deserved. I told H tonight that I thought it had too much football for most women and too little football for most men. But it was just right for me.

The boys were all wearing championship rings. They won.

And we lost a GREAT series…I’m so happy that they were nominated for Emmy’s…but their ratings were horrible. So many people were “afraid” of a football series. It wasn’t.

Texas forever…

FNL didn’t end for me last night - it ended for me when it was on DirectTV in the beginning of the spring semester. I read the reviews on EW.com and remind myself where the NBC viewers are at.

But I did think it did wonderful with what it had. I liked how a lot of the ending was ambiguous. We didn’t see the big game - the rings were enough proof. Luke was heading off to Basic Training - what else can he do but work on the farm? Vince was the star of the new ‘super tem’ - thanks to Eric Taylor. Julie and Matt are engaged in Chicago - end game that I love. Tim is building his house on his land with his brother - as he said with Jason Street ‘Texas Forever’ and Coach and Mrs. Coach were happily settled in Philly while Taylor had to teacher his players on ‘Clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose.’

FNL did a lot of things a lot of people didn’t like. For some the show felt too real - it combined the sports aspect (football) which some loved or hated and the aspect of family which for some thought was too real. FNL never gained an audience because of how emotional and how much the show talked about morality. I always have to remind myself that this show conquered issues with teenage drinking, military funerals, rape, and the holy grail of all things - abortion. It was too real for some people through its documentary style and not using marks for actors who can willingly walk around the Taylors house without having to stop to say a certain line to a certain character.

Last thing - FNL gained 3 Emmy Nominations they should be proud of - Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (Kyle Chandler as Eric Taylor for the second time), and Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (Connie Britton as Tami Taylor for the second time). Neither Connie nor Kyle will probably get the Emmy but its exciting for them to get recognized on a truly remarkable show.

I will miss it too. I was one of the few shows my DH and I watched together. I like how almost everything was wrapped up - even characters who were not in the last season. We saw Jason Street as a sports agent, Smash Williams as an Aggie. Most of the rest were in the last episode. The only missing one I can think of was Buddy’s daughter (Minka Kelley). If she was mentioned, I missed it.

One of my favorite shows ever! After listening to interviews with producers and cast members recorded over the years on NPR yesterday, I had to watch the finale again, even though I used 4 tissues watching in February.
Direct TV showed a montage before they began the finale that’s embedded in this link. I loved it so much I bookmarked it for a little fix now and then!

I just love that the ending wasn’t Luke catching the ball, the team mobbing him and Vince, Eric looking up at Tammy, Vince’s dad finding Vince’s mom in the crowd and apologizing and embracing her, and all the other possible cliches that many sports shows/movies fall back on.

Luke joining the military was wonderful. That’s what my dad did to get off the farm. chokes back tears again

And the love of the land shown in this episode is something I think they hit on perfectly. And, interestingly, I never got a feminist vibe from the show through the years, but I felt like the women on the show finale were so strong – Tami gets her dream job, finally; Tyra not willing to give up her dreams to accommodate Tim and Tim not asking her to; Jess continues to pursue her coaching aspirations; and best, Julie telling her parents that even choosing a more traditional role is HER choice.

So…who do you think is the head coach of the super team? I had read a few days ago that Buddy got the job, but I’m not sure the finale really showed that last night. Any thoughts?

Here’s what Jason Katims had to say about that in an interview by Alan Sepinwall –
