friends and seniors please guide me to realize our life time dream

<p>Beloved friends
I welcome you all with great respect and great love
i am from India, my son has a burning desire to be at MIT" Massachusetts Institute of Technology, CAMBRIDGE -USA"
he is doing his final B.E(Mechanical) and interested in Robotics and Mechatronic
in his M.S or M.E
he will be writing his GRE and TOEFL in October 2009 ,these two exams are most important to enter in US universities.
what should be the minimum marks
GRE total mark = 1600
TOEFL total mark= 120
we are from farming community, we never entered into any post graduate degree in our life.
and in fact if our boy gets in to MIT( No 1 ranked ) he will be the first from our village, in fact surrounding village spread over 20 km
and we request also financial aid procedure, In MIT
as the tuition fees are around US $ 37000 per /year, there are other expenses too will be there , living expenses, books, etc
what are the chances for indian to get financial support in USA , MIT
as our boy is getting around 87% in his university exams
so far, and he is in his final year
will be completing his B.E by march 2010
to meet his education cost we are prepared to sell our earthly position too
what matters is his education, and that too at MIT.
what else we can do?</p>

<p>He should apply directly to PhD since it will be completely funded. MS programs are not always guaranteed to be funded.</p>

<p>thank you my dear chaospaladin
for your response.
i am indebted to you and other friends
yes i will pass this message to my son
thank you once again
and this is a great forum

<p>On the other hand, a PhD will take a lot longer to complete than an MS, and I believe they are harder to get into due to the nature of the degree. I could be wrong with that though.</p>

<p>Why does he want to go to MIT and MIT only?</p>

<p>What happens if he doesn’t get into MIT? If he is motivated and hard working, he will still do well at other schools that may not be his first choice.</p>

<p>Oh my beloved 'armstrong101"
thank you for your reply
but you do not understand the aspirations
of a young farm boy in india
MIT or bust
thanks,
but no thanks

Eriatarka,</p>

<p>please accept my heart felt thanks for your time in sharing it here
my dear
yes you are absolutely correct in saying “time’ is big criteria in pursuing ones life dream
Phd, it is harder too than MS. In Life nothing is easier my friend.time and tide waits for none, in order to excel one has to be a pathfinder
i hope my boy has that “spark” in him.
to meet the challenges.
we were thinking of your country"Australia” as a destination earlier but after seeing so many hill treatment recently for the Indian students. we are afraid to send him. He is the only child and torch bearer for my family and our village
thanks for your kind reply

<p>I heard from my friends in China that a GRE score that is above 1400 would be extremely good. not too sure on the toefl part though, from what i understand, it is just one of those tests that is used to make sure you can understand english well enough to go through schooling here in the states… most schools will list their minimum cut for toefl on the webpage.</p>

<p>My God sent friend Armstrong 101</p>

<p>first let me congratulate you for the name
Armstrong101
what a name!, the man who took the first step in the Moon
that is a giant step for the mankind
leap for the Science </p>

<p>greetings and please accept my thanks for your response
it is nice of you to share your time with me by your reply.
to answer your question </p>

<p>1.Why does he want to go to MIT and MIT only?
when we were searching in the net where to go and which college?
we came across MIT and upenn
with MIT, their mission with vision
we were thunderstruck. it was exhilarating moment when we read their Mission
which was stated in their website:
“The essence of MIT is our appetite for problems-especially those big, intractable, complicated problems whose solutions make a permanent difference. While MIT is a research university committed to world-class inquiry in math, science, and engineering, we have equally distinguished programs in the architecture, the humanities, management, and the social sciences. A diverse, supportive campus environment-with an incredible range of student groups and athletic and fitness opportunities-ensures that it’s not all about the work. And in MIT’s intensely creative atmosphere, the arts flourish in all their forms.”</p>

<p>yes this made us to be obsessed with MIT
"“The essence of MIT is our appetite for problems-especially those big, intractable, complicated problems whose solutions make a permanent difference.” to the betterment of the world.</p>

<p>Coming to 2nd question</p>

<p>2.What happens if he doesn’t get into MIT? If he is motivated and hard working, he will still do well at other schools that may not be his first choice.?</p>

<p>we will try our best, in fact it is a mountain task with my country which is growing to meet the challenge of population
and emerging economy out of recession</p>

<p>my son is brilliant we have no complaints.
only nagging question at this moment is FINANCE TO MEET THE TUTION FEES which are quite high. 37k for out-of-state student. per year.
we will strive every energy of ours to arrange the money, even at the cost of self.
we are joyfully ready to forgo all the comforts and be happy about it
in order to meet our wonder son aspiration
we are committed to his well being</p>

<p>we will do what ever possible , nothing will be left unasked, unturned</p>

<p>we trust in destiny? and above all my Blissful son has 'burning desire" to excel in his chosen field. i feel honestly he will pass through effotlessly, in fact it will be effortless effort for him</p>

<p>in his Desk top monitor my son has written these words.</p>

<p>"if some one can do it , u can also do it,</p>

<p>if no one can do it. u must do it</p>

<p>if not now , then when?</p>

<p>if not you, then who?"</p>

<p>and he has changed the word of the king solomon
which used to be
"This too shall pass
To
This too will pass</p>

<p>emphasising that every thing will and must change</p>

<p>we aim for the stars. let us be with positive hope
rest is in the hands of Universal Power. which has guided us to see the message of MIT and i am positive it will lead us there, for we trust
Existence always say "thathasthu’ the meaning is as you wish,.so it shall be
it will grant us what we deeply desire
seen the tv doucmentary called "THE SECRET’
Friend in the end we have to compromise , life is about flexiblity, look at our life we want the best but we have to make an honest effort.
we will do our best rest is in the hands of the Lord.
let us look forward with hope
with many wonderful friends here in this forum , all your blessings and guidence will help us to reach our destination…

<p>Dear jiaxiking
i welcome you with great respect and great love
yes, here too lots of educational consultant told us this point
if one is not getting 90% out of total mark, then it is not worth to pursue, we are of the opinion GRE and Toefl marks will help. and other input to the university
thanks friend, for you kind response
I wish you abundance of wellness and peace</p>

<p>There are a lot of other schools that would probably fit your son’s needs. MIT is a great school, I agree, but so are Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech, and a slew of other schools. Of course, all of these schools are super selective, so it’s best to apply to a variety of schools, including those that are less selective.</p>

<p>Respected virtuoso<em>735
thanks for your information, it is heart warming to see many come forward to respond, as suggested by you we will do applying to top notch school plus "that are less selective"if your time permits friend, do respond with list of less selective colleges, which are good for Mechanical Engineering, and the cost of tuition fees can begged down to manageable level say 20k per year, thanks my dear Senior Member “virtuoso</em>735”. you are certainly virtuous my dear , thanks once again for your time
i wish you abundance of wellness and peace
to you and to all your loved ones

<p>he bears all the love and hope in the family, and the village.
you’re gonna be proud of him, for his struggle and brilliant performance.
but what I want to say out of kindness is that, as parents, you should let him go, let himself worry more about his application. only in that way could he grow mature.
moreover, getting into MIT is far from passing with flying colors in those standardized exams and scoring high in GPA. it is not the numbers and awards that apply for admission, it is the real person, right?
Just have every confidence that your son will perform well in Toefl and Gre.</p>

<p>thanks friend Sakurawind
yes confidence is the key, he will do well
i am sure
once again thanks for your response friend
he is very clear in his goal
his studies, he is a smart student
the more it gets harder he works with zeal and passion
yes
i will pass this message to him friend
good to see you here

<p>Easwaran - The main racial attacks I’ve been hearing of have occurred at Curtin University. If you were wanting to study a PhD, you probably wouldn’t go there. Australian Universities are a lot easier to get into and cost a lot less as they’re all government funded (save a few). However, you’d want to shoot for the best Uni from the state your interested in, and Curtin isn’t the best for WA (UWA is).</p>

<p>Dear Eriatarka
I am really overwhelmed by your reply again.
yes the educational cost is definitely chiefer in Australia compared to states. you know much better than me friend.
my son will opt for PhD for sure
it is really disturbing about racial attack,
Australian govt has announced remedial measures for this menace. Hope in due time every thing turns out well.
thank you my friend Eriatarka for coming back and blessing us with your input.</p>

<p>thank you endlessly friend
