Southern CA. This is bizarre weather and well off from predictions a few hours ago. It looks like the high today will be 83F – an all time record for January. However, with wind gusts as high as 45mph, it feels cooler. Obviously this is not good conditions for fire. Rain is now predicted for Saturday, which will be the area’s first significant rain since April, if it happens.
It was 59 in Oahu outside of our house at night, which is amazingly cold for our state. I couldn’t figure out why I was so cold but went to S’s bedroom and took a blanket off his bed (they’re long gone—came down for the holidays). I could finally sleep once my feet warmed up.
Back maybe 10 years ago (?), a year when the Super Bowl was in Houston I believe, BIL and wife drove to El Paso from the northeast to visit family. They were passing through Oklahoma when an ice storm hit. Ill-equipped to deal with it, the local solution was to spread sawdust onto the highways. Well, after a couple of cars had passed, all the sawdust had been blown to the side, doing absolutely nothing about the glare ice. Cars were crawling down the highway at 10 mph max.
For all those in a part of the country that this applies.
I appreciate this as cold and snow are not my fav but not seeing the sun for days on end is the WORST!
Pup and I got our usual walk in this morning for the first time in days. 15 degrees but sunny.
For folks in Bay Area, there’s a frost alert in Foster City (pretty unusual there).
