From "The Onion"

When “well meaning” people tell you or your kid to “do it as an avocation,” send them this. Maybe they’ll get a clue as to what they’re really saying …

I LOVE The Onion. Thank you for sharing! So relevant to my life right now in the most ironic way… growing up is scary…

Well done, fishbowl. Hail to the Onion!

Haha! Haaa. ha… oh crap.

That article was written about me.

Damn you , The Onion!

Love it and shared it with my daughter. Thanks!

…And that’s why I’m not an artist. I let my family convince me that I am a lawyer and that art was an avocation. I’m not a lawyer either. But, I’m about to have an empty nest and its never too late to get started.

LOVE this! The best advice my S got was from a friend of ours in her 30s who had his dream once and she got a theatre degree and a ‘back up.’ Guess what? She only did the ‘back up.’ She told my S, “Whatever you do, don’t get a backup. Get your theatre degree and go for it. Without the backup, you will try harder. You have the rest of your life to do something else, don’t start by doing it now.” I loved that she told him this and I memorized every word.

Well said ahermitt. Never too late.

In that case, do some of you guys wanna start a boy band?
