FSU Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

My OOS D24 who applied for fall did get the email, too. MS22 got in with lower test score and less leadership… same grades/rigor and he was accepted for fall 22 but did not attend. In looking at the website it said any Fall or Summer admit could apply to do study abroad for the first year and OOS students would receive in state tuition the remaining years. I wondered the same thing… did they send it to everyone, did they just send it to OOS applicants to explore the possibility of reduced tuition or was it a soft way to tell us we were getting a pathway. However, if I understood correctly what was on the website, it looked like admit, defer, deny were the only options for this first release on 2/15 and the pathway offers were coming out after deferrals, but I could have misunderstood.

It can’t be defer, because this is the last round of admissions for the year. Maybe waitlist?

Yes, per the website, defer is a possibility for Regular decision applicants.

Interesting. Thanks for correcting me. Still don’t understand how you can defer someone when it is the last round of admissions, but I’m probably missing something.

It just means that you are still in consideration, but will need to wait until the end of March to get a decision. I’m not aware of any other schools that do this, but since their early action is only for FL residents, it makes sense.

Our tour guide when we visited this summer said she was deferred and didn’t find out she got in until late March

Yes, my daughter received, too. Wondering also if sent to all students.

I think everyone gets it who are waiting for a decision next week. My daughter was accepted EA for fall and received it a couple weeks before the December decision, so not an indicator of what might happen on decision day, more just some info.

Not a sign. FWIW, the First Year Abroad (FYA) program at FSU is a great program. It’s one of the top reasons S23 chose to attend FSU last year. With the in-state tuition for 3 years for OOS students, it’s a $39k benefit (minus the higher cost of the Study Abroad program). He’s able to complete many of his gen-eds in small classes (max 25-30 kids) in the first year and get to travel throughout Europe on the side. FSU has been running these centers for > 25 years and so has a ton of experience in long-term Study Abroad programs. S24 has also applied to FSU this year.

Well I got nothing from FSU recently, so I’m wondering why I did not get it.

Check your spam folder, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Can you tell who actually looks at your Linken In account? I haven’t used mine really very recently…

Does FSU look at mid-year grades? I know they have the SSAR button on the portal. Our semester just finished last Thursday and some grades are still not finalized. I can’t imagine that they are taking these under consideration given that they are releasing decisions next week.

My wife said she got this last week…

Some panic… Can anyone confirm that FSU does not use the school transcript and does not use LORs?

On my son’s portal, which says Under Review (not Awaiting Materials), I don’t see the official high school transcript as having been received - but also not noted as missing. Also, in our schools SCOIR system there were no docs sent by the high school - transcripts or LORs - which is odd, b/c transcripts went out to every other school, including Q1 transcripts, whether schools wanted them or not. TIA. Sweating a little over here…

FSU doesn’t use official transcripts. The SRAR needs to be submitted. I don’t think they consider or require LORs.

If you are under review you are set, my transcript does not show up either and I know my counselor sent it. They probably have it internally, but they don’t have it show up on the portal. But if you did not submit the SRAR, that is a problem. You will probably need to shift to rolling admissions if not done yet.

Thanks for the info. SSAR (not SRAR on their portal-?) was linked mid-Oct and downloaded by them in early Dec. So they will have all grades up until senior year. My son will update the S1 grades tomorrow, even if teachers still have time to make changes, they look done.

You don’t have to send in transcripts or 1st semester grades yet. I found this on the FSU SSAR info site: FSU Admissions | First-Year SSAR

Do I have to submit my first semester grades in the senior year?
“All students who are offered admission or deferred must update the SSAR with first semester grades when those grades become available. You will log in to the SSAR website with the email address and password used to create your original SSAR and enter your first semester (mid-year) grades.”

Do I have to submit my final senior grades?
All admitted students are required to update the SSAR with their final senior grades. You will log in to the SSAR website with the email address and password used to create your original SSAR. All admitted students who choose to enroll at Florida State are also required to submit final official high school and college dual enrollment transcripts, so that the grades entered on their SSAR can be verified.

SSAR is what I meant, sorry. SRAR was an older version of that software. I think you are all good. Should hear back by next Thursday, but I think it will actually be Monday or Tuesday of next week.
