Fun Friday Question: what youthful fashion are you on the edge have having to give up?

Great! Since it’s free shipping and return, you can always exchange for a different size. Just make sure the band isn’t too tight.

Simone Perele makes a great strapless bra:

Need the skinny/midrise jeans. Mom jeans and any other cut are too curvy for me.

My wrinkling knees are what’s limiting me these days. I’m starting to feel weird about shorts/skirts/dresses above the knee. Is there such a thing as a “knee lift”?

I wish there were. Don’t you just hate that? It’s seems each year there is one thing on my body that finally is showing my age. This year its the skin on my legs, not knees. My knees have had those wrinkles above it for a few years. It’s the actual skin. Even with exercise, it looks really loose, jiggly and has more cellulite than I remember. I’m a healthy weight, and work out moderately. My legs never bothered me before. I think the key should be to work out differently with my legs, but I hate strenuous activities. It’s very frustrating. Thus, another thing I’m ready to give up are my 3 inch shorts. I think I need to now go longer on them and my dresses. Darn. My legs are short enough.

@conmama - I hear ya’! It’s not so much the size of my thighs but their consistency! Short legs here as well. Longer shorts look awful on me! I, too, hate strenuous exercise. I do circuit training with light weights. I feel like I’m in good shape. I am pretty trim. So far, my arms are still looking good. Now, if I can just get that right strapless bra, so I can work those strappy tops!

Look for shorts with in inseam of 4-5 inches. Just a little extra but not too long. I hate almost to the knee shorts. For me, they are uncomfortable and draw attention to the knee area.

My knees aren’t amazing by any means, but you know what? I work hard to exercise regularly and if this is the best it gets, at least I know they are fit knees and legs.

@Hoggirl …those short legs, right?! 5 inch shorts are actually too long, but it’s hard finding 4". For our short legs, I find that shorts that flair from the thighs, rather than hug them, look better. I also do weights. It’s like my thighs need a thighs lift! At some point I’ll accept it like the rest of the things I am, but for now it bugs me. I did put on a self tanner yesterday, and they look much better. Lancôme has an excellent one. Expensive, but worth it. I use a scrub first.

Some good 4 inch short options. Of course this needs to be a style you like! I like many of the Athleta shorts because they can be dressed up or down. Some of them have the slight “flair”.

I’m in my late 40’s and I’m the same size as both of my daughters, and their stuff fits me, but some of it would look silly on me because it’s meant for teenagers. Like it looks and fits fine, but I feel like I’d have no dignity or gravitas if I went out wearing it.

That being said, I’m sitting here in a Wonder Woman T shirt that says “this girl plays rough” so my fashion sense is suspect @-) (really, though, it’s just for wearing around the house)

My retired model tip is that tight clothes make you look fatter. Always. Loose or flowy clothing will fool the eye into thinking you’re so skinny you’re shrinking out of your clothes ;).

@conmama - agree about the slight flair helping. Seems to align with @MotherOfDragons 's tip above. I can definitely do 5-inch shorts. Would prefer 6-inch. They don’t look super given the shortness of my legs, but that cellulite goes pretty much down to my knees now! However, narrow Bermudas are absolutely awful on me.

Have you ever read the Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love? It’s Southern humor, and the author talks about how being tan helps. Her analogy is something along the lines of, “Brown fat looks better than white fat. All you have to do it look at a pork chop to recognize that fact.” :))

I went with the shorts below from the Gap for my upcoming trip to Bermuda. They come in regular, tall and petite. I found they fit me well and I feel better having my thighs covered. I have long legs so I have always been able to wear longer shorts.

Talbots often offers their shorts in multiple lengths. Their in-store colors were too limited for me since I waited too long to shop before vacation. I ended up buying at our new LL Bean store. Love their hiking shorts!

I’m so understanding this conversation. Here are some shorts that come in several different lengths. They are my new favorite. https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens_category/shorts/solid/4-stretch-chino-short/G2331

I can’t do off shoulder but i just bought a light-knit cold shoulder tunic and I LOVE it. Showing shoulder and upper arm skin but not the underneath-arm skin? Sign me up

I love my skinny jeans and my leggings, though I wear the latter only with longer (tunic) tops.

My D bought some “mom jeans” at a thrift shop to cut for shorts - so they must be in.

A friend posted this video on FB - I LOVE it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/thunder-thighs-belly-outlines-welcome-2017s-summer-body/

@conmama - strapless bra arrived! It IS a good one! Definitely did the right thing by going down a band size and up a cup size. Not sure how comfortable it will be (wire seems a bit pokey on one side under my arm), but one must suffer for beauty! Thanks for the suggestion.

@Hoggirl …I’m so glad. When I first wore mine it felt tight and weird, but didn’t slip at all. I got used to it really fast, maybe the same will happen to you. The wire didn’t poke on the side at all. You might want to order another one just to see if it’s that particular one doing it. I would.

“… but one must suffer for beauty!”

No. One must not. Keep looking! I found that Simone Perelle one I linked worked wonders. Also, check the Tom style by Marie Jo - it is offered as a strapless design, too. Another suggestion - if you wear halter style tops, get a convertible bra that can be worn halter-style. The Tom comes in that style, too:

@BunsenBurner Ha ha! Yes, I have a convertible bra for halter tops. The band on that Simone Perelle doesn’t look nearly wide enough in the back for me. The one I bought will certainly do.

I miss the days when I had “North American” girls. Unfortunately, they have decided to go south of the border and I can’t find a strapless bra that will keep them up. Will have to try a few of the suggestions here.
