Fundraising for Speech?

Hi. I’m in Speech and Debate and I’m trying to raise some money so that I can do nat. circuit tournaments next year. I’m doing this individually and I kinda need some ideas that aren’t so ridiculous.

If this is next year, getting a job now would probably be … highly beneficial.

Alternatively you can contact businesses - and when I say this, I mean contact them by the hundreds, since the rate of success here is infinitesimal - with a well-written letter (read: plea) explaining why they should fund your trip and how much you’d appreciate even a tiny, tiny donation.

I’m only 15, can’t get a job yet. The other idea seems very tedious…Does it actually work?

I have no idea if it works for individuals, but businesses will fund different clubs sometimes (especially if they run a publication that could potentially advertise their sponsors).

… are there laws where you live preventing 15-year-olds from working? I had a job at age 15, and all I needed was a work permit (which I got from the counseling office at my school). If you’re not allowed to hold down a ‘steady’ job, you could always babysit, mow lawns, or such - and you can make a lot of cash that way if you manage to get the word out about your services.
