funny/witty/fun books

i wanna read something amuzing/witty for fun.

any suggestions?

a heartbreaking work of staggering genius.

LAMB by Christopher Moore

Try Cat’s Cradle. Or anything by Kurt Vonnegut. Also, if you haven’t read the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series, give that a go. The movie doesn’t do it any justice at all, so don’t be prejudiced.

Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat
The Cat in the Hat
Hop on Pop
Green Eggs and Ham

oscar wilde…

I second Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy…The movie was soooo bad. And probably ruined a lot of jokes in the book. But it was bad enough that you probably won’t remember it. Haha.

And I heard The Gospel According to Bif was pretty funny, but I haven’t read it myself.

I liked Good Omens, too.

Don Quixote, if you have a lot of time at hand.

The Black Tulip, by Alexandre Dumas

North Dallas 40 by Peter Gent
Semi-Tough by Dan Jenkins

Two of the funniest books ever written. Hands down.

kurt vonnegut is my illicit lover.

read him now!

new yorker’s good stuff too, esp. if you can get your hands on a back issue of the fiction issue(came out right before christmas). it was delicious. :)

yes, definitely kurt vonnegut, also Catch-22, Peter Pan, One Hundred Years of Solitude…

one hundred years of solitude was a very good book but it doesnt really a HAHAHA chuckling book. as my title indicated i’m inquiring about somethig more along those lines

Book of bunny Suicides

In terms of wittiness, so to speak, I loved Ishiguro’s “Never Let Me Go”. Not a really funny book, but still…

Oh! Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is a great book. Very funny. As far as other comedic works go… um… I echo the Hitchhiker’s Guide suggestion.

I’ll second Catch-22

One hundred years of solitude is my all-time favorite book, but it’s not funny. Lamb, the Gospel According to Christ’s Childhood Best Friend, Bif, really is the funniest book I’ve ever read. Moore has written several others, which have some laughs and are well-done, but I don’t think he’ll be able to match Lamb.

A Confederacy of Dunces – John Kennedy Toole

Sorry to butt in on College Life–this thread caught my eye. My daughter liked “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” Tucker Max. It’s certainly not at the level of literature of the other suggestions but she said even though she is not much of a drinker, thought the book was funny and light. Here’s a link that has some excerpts–http://beerinhell.tuckermax.com/archives/preview_the_book.html</a></p>

The little bit I read should make any student think twice about binge drinking ;).
