Hello everybody,
I’m french student and and maybe, and I hope to join a US school next year.
I would like to know if I have a 750 in SAT and 110 at the TOEFL I have chances to integrate an University like Stanford or UPenn or Yale or UCLA and Berkeley ?
And I would like to know if I’m obliged to send my transcripts at the university ? Because my notes are not very excellents…
Can I integrate this university with a great notes on SAT and TOEFL even if my transcripts are not excellent ?
I’m obliged to send my transcripts are it’s optional ? Maybe current or old students of this university can help me…
PLEASE HELP ME !
TX AGAIN
@juju34000 - International admissions to selective US schools on your list are EXTREMELY competitive. Transcripts, grades, SAT scores, extracurriculars, awards, honors, recommendations, are all VERY important to the admissions process.
You said your SAT was 750 - is that one of the SAT components, because SAT is out of 1600 (new) and 2400 (old).
750 in mathematics, My questions is if I’m obliged to send my transcripts or no ?.. If the universitys read my transcripts my chance to accept will be low…
I had 1400 on SAT
@juju34000 - yes transcripts are required by all the colleges you listed
Ok thank you, How does the sending of the notes take place?
My school send the transcript or It’s me who send the transcript ?
School has to send official transcript directly to the college admissions offices or through the common application.
In french, after high school you can do an “IUT” or “BTS” for 2 years. Actually I make BTS in science computer and it’s impossible to recover my transcripts before the BTS.
After my BTS, it will be enought to send my BTS transcripts ? Or the universitys want compulsory the transcripts during the high school ?
You should plan on sending both your HS and your BTS transcripts.
@juju34000 - I have no idea what those stand for. Per poster above, you should submit both. All I can tell you is that colleges need every course, every year from 9th through 12th.
@acliabides, could you help out the OP?
I’m very lost… I worked very had for the TOEFL and SAT and I get very nice score.
But like I said you, I had a C or B in High School and it’s not suffisant to be admitted to stanford or UCLA or Yale and Colombia. I have a very good portofolia, very nice essay and I passed lot of time for the famous question of Stanford and others… I hesitate to send my application… I have no chance ? or a little ?
@juju34000 - admissions to these schools are very competitive, especially for international applicants. According to http://www.hio.harvard.edu/statistics - there are a total of 8 students from France in Harvard college - which means average 2 admits per year. Not sure about the other schools, but I assume those are pretty close. If you believe you will be one of the top 2 from entire France, then please apply. If not, use your time and money wisely.
Not for harvard… Harvard is so selective. I thought for UCLA or Stanford
Check their websites for their selectivity. Stanford has lower acceptance rates than H. Not sure about UCLA’s International acceptances.
Do you need fin aid? UCs apparently don’t give fin aid to International.
Good luck to you. I am sure it will all work out very well.
Remember, those big name schools are not the only good ones out there.
What do I do for my transcipts ? Differents forums and differents websites said me that the transcripts was recommended but NOT mandatory. What do you think ? Maybe others students who sent their apllications to this schools can help me for answears to this question.
Ask the college. Don’t depend on forums. But AFAIK no college can make an admissions decision without the transcript.
Over and out.
AFAIK ? What do you mean ?
AFAIK = As far as I know.
You’ll need to send your bulletins (either each term or the 3rd one if it contains the year’s recap), your DNB (“brevet”) results, your relevé de notes du bac (with the mention), SAT Test, SAT Subject tests, and TOEFL, plus essays.
What bac did you do? What “mention” did you get for the bac? What BTS are you doing?
Admission is based on 1° academic excellence and 2° extracurricular excellence (developing an app, raising funds for a cause, being an Olympics or nationally-ranked athlete - something unique that only 1 or 2 people your age have done).
Have you got a Fiske guide? Or checked out “niche”?
There are 3,700 colleges in the US. Think of the US as 50 states, similar to the European Union and its 28 countries. Now, France has HEC, ESSEC, ECSP, EDHEM, GEM, ENA, Polytechnique, Sup"Aéro, Mines, Ponts, ParisTech, Centrale, INSA, UTC, Normal Sup Ulm, Normal Sup Lyon, Sciences Po, UMPC, Chartes, Louis Le Grand, Henri IV, Fénelon, St Louis, Stanislas, Fermat, Le Parc, … and that’s just ONE country. There are as many strong programs in the UK and in Germany - you’re already with a Top 75 list. Then add Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway (EEA), etc, etc, and soon you have about 200 great programs.
In the US, the top 10% (about 370 programs) are excellent and hard to get into. You need to look into them.
Google USNWR Research Universities, USNWR National Liberal Arts Colleges, USNWR Regional Universities.
If you’re applying to Stanford, you have a commonapp file, so it’ll be easy for you to add new colleges (commonapp accepts 20).
What’s your budget?
Or, if you’re not sure, what’s your parents’ income?
Do you realize a school like Berkeley or UCLA will cost you about $60,000 per year? There is no financial aid for international students.
Stanford, Harvard, Penn are private universities and they may offer you some financial aid – but not necessarily enough for you to attend.
Money is the most important consideration when looking at schools in the USA. Higher education is very expensive here.
