A HS kid I know just asked me to help him research Ga. Tech, specifically its bioengineering program (undergrad), which is highly ranked. I’m sure I’m not looking in the right place, as I see stats for Ga. Tech generally but not broken down by programs.

For those who are familiar or whose kids looked into it – what kind of stats are usually competitive? Are we talking high school val with as many APs as the school has plus a 2300 SAT, or a top 5% ranking with science/math APs and a 2000 SAT, or something else altogether? I know ECs etc. will factor in, but I think the first issue it to figure out if he’s competitive or can make himself competitive.

AFAIK majors are not impacted at GT, so bioengineering shouldn’t be that much more selective than anything else at GT. 2000 SAT may be pushing it (that is about in the 25%ile), but in my opinion it is much easier to score a 30-32 on the ACT than a 2000, so if that kid thinks he/she isn’t competitive, tell him/her to try the ACT.

Georgia tech doesn’t profess to care at all about rank, so as long as the student has a good gpa relative to the highschool it’s all peachy.

I’m not sure GA tech cares about major during admission.
If you search Georgia tech freshman profile you’ll get a good idea.
They have a very good BME program. When my son was applying they were second only to JHU, which is MUCH more competitive. One thing to consider with GT is OOS merit only aid is pretty hard to come by.
