For some reason, Arya’s ending reminded me of the end of “The Return of the King” where Frodo leaves the Shire.
Aaannndddd…I got a kick out of the reaction to Sam’s suggestion that all the people of Westeros should vote on the King. Guess they’re not quite ready for democracy yet…
^My spouse loved that part, too, @scout59.
It probably would have rung false if they had accepted Sam’s idea. Too far from anything they had experienced.
But I guess their electing a king by council consensus is the start of a House of Lords of sorts, perhaps with a House of Commons to follow sometime in the future…
Well, I’m glad Tyrion survived, even though I lost a bet on that one.
Was very happy with the ending. Really liked how they wrapped up everything.
Drogon had the best visuals, both unfurling his wings behind Dany and melting the Iron Throne. I wonder if he even knew Jon had done the deed? But apparently he had picked up on Dany’s obsession with the throne driving her to her death, so to speak.
What did Arya do with her pale horse :)?
I liked how the last scene mirrored the first scene of the series.
Nope, didn’t like it. If that was GRRM’s planned ending, I’m not surprised he’s been suffering from writer’s block for so long.
I loved Drogon zapping the throne. Good riddance!
I found it very disappointing.
I too found it very disappointing. So many things were rushed and made no sense. For example, Dana is killed and the Dothraki and the Unsullied allow Jon to be taken prisoner instead of killing him? Then they just sail off to Naarth? If all of a sudden everyone starts following Westeros law why isn’t Jon the King? The Wall that was destroyed by the Night King has been rebuilt? What is the purpose of the Night’s Watch now that the White Walkers are defeated. I could go on…
I enjoyed it. I’d love to follow Jon and Arya on their new lives. The banter at Bran the Broken’s table - wonderful! Seeing Brienne write about Jamie - touching. Obviously it isn’t perfect - how can it be for the masses? Sure we had to suspend belief but we had to do that throughout the series- if not it wouldn’t even be!
I hope Grey Worm and the Unsullied can learn to live peaceably in Naath. I thought it was a romantic touch.
And this time someone left a water bottle on the set, which is seen (partial view) behind the foot of a seated cast member in one scene.
An unremarkable ending to an otherwise remarkable series.
Is Tyrion the effective Head of State? Bran doesn’t seem to be interested in doing anything except daydreaming.
Bringing out the Song of Ice and Fire book was hokey.
Do they just not have an army now? OK. Seems a bit risky given this world’s history.
No way they wouldn’t have killed Jon. He just walks out like that and everyone is cool with him being the Queenslayer?
I just read that the prequel is underway - takes place 5000 years prior. Stars Naomi Watts and is maybe going to be titled The Long Night. Is supposed to answer some questions left hanging in Game if Thrones, like the the origin of the White Walkers.
^^i was just talking about that this morning too. How did jon stay alive? I’d like to think that gray worm’s army knew what they did was not justified. . . .
They also knew there would be repercussions from all the people from the north if they killed him. Might not have wanted to start a civil war.
There were a few weak plot elements, but overall so many amazing moments. The last survivor of a ruined house walking through a literal ruined house, Drogon melting the Iron Throne, Sam, as always, forward thinking yet not taken fully seriously, the four Stark children all heading off in new directions.
I wonder if in the last few weeks the writers have wanted to say to all of us, “But wait!” For instance, we all complained about the way he parted with his direwolf, but what a lovely reunion in this episode. I felt like the writers were speaking through Tyrion when he talked about how no one was fully happy, which is the sign of a good compromise. That is “Not everyone is going to like everything about how we end this story, but that’s probably a sign that it’s what it should be.”
It’s really funny to read the last few pages when I haven’t ever seen the show.
D2 was crying last night. I asked her what’s the matter and she said “Game of Thrones killed off everyone!”
The drama.
