will they send out acceptances and rejections tomorrow?

I am not sure.

I know that it doesn’t make any sense, but that is what the (real live) woman told me.

Ahh, I feel anxious to hear how all of you do! I really hope for good news… keep me informed.

On a side note: is the GMS something that I should report to schools that I’ve been waitlisted at? Or will it not matter?

Also!!

My FAFSA EFC is around 800, but some of my private schools came up with an EFC of 10k+

Does this mean that I have to pay 10k+ at these schools? Or will Gates use the FAFSA EFC? I sure hope it’s the FAFSA EFC :(

my friend got it and she’s under the OCA organization…she sent in her stuff right after she was notified…

robot, the same situation happened to me. Basically, we are screwed because they will use the school’s efc. Your financial aid package from the school must include Pell Grant. If you don’t see peel grant written on the letter, then you’re out of luck. This is why they ask you to send the financial aid package to the gates office; they want to confirm the pell grant.

Okay um my fasfa I have a full pell grant. On my financial aid packet for hopkins my EFC is 0. However, the financial aid packet does not directly say pell grant. My financial aid counselor said that it is included in my hopkins grant and my early decision grant which are 40k together. So I think that each financial aid packet is different depending on your school. You should talk to your school. If in fasfa you were approved for the pell grant then you should be good. My packets from my other schools distinctly say pell grant. hope this helps

According to xiggi, Gates uses the federal EFC to determine your unmet need–NOT the EFC determined by the school. I am calling today to double check this. This could make a difference between paying 10k a year or 800.

regarding the above post…some schol does not let outside scholarship deduct from the EFC…for example…if they determine ur EFC is 10k…outside scholarship is not deducted…u have to pay 10k…even if u got a 10k scholarship…how does gates do that

Tried today

I tried it today between classes on the pay phone and it worked. I was welcomed as a scholar. I am going to listen again to hear what else since I had to rush. It is soo comforting. I cannot wait for the letter. What schools or areas are everyone from and what is their first choice school. (Eastern Shore, VA; Johns Hopkins)
Good luck to everyone

…wat is this number that ppl are talking about??? wat do u call

Take a moment and re-read what xiggi posted. Sure, some schools will not take out from the EFC they have calculated. Gates will simply “increase the unmet need” in such a circumstance. The check you receive should reflect this difference. Regardless, you will pay what your FAFSA EFC is, and not the institutional EFC determined by the school. At least that is what I interpreted.

You can find it at the bottom of the letterhead…
It is 1-877-690-GMSP (I used that number)
or 1-800-944-9627

idk. the only thing i can do is offer my words of reassurance and stuff. what else is thee to do?

hey everyone, when you log in as a scholar, and press two, what does it say about your check or whatever?

because when i press it, it says a check has been sent to my preferred mailing adress or something. is this a mistake?

so the fasfa we calculated on website and the one we sent in is the one they will use?? are you sure?? I want to attend Emory and they have my efc at like 7k…the one my family and i calculated go to be 3206…will they use the latter?

oyy…still no letter. :(

for those who got in…when did u sent in ur info…and when i called…they did not greet me with “welcome scholar” does this mean i have no more hope

and robotfood…was that interpretation or real fact that u’ve heard from the official ppl

melancholy, u pressed 1 and entered in ur SSN, ur pin and u didn’t get that greet? what does it say instead?

oh my god!! i talked to gates today and the operator told me that they use the school’s EFC instead of the federal EFC. I still won’t be able to afford most of my schools even with every other portion covered :(
