K, your package should start with the COA. NU will have to indicate YOUR COA on the GMSP form that needs to be returned to Gates.

Cool. So when will we get our Scholar handbooks and Usernames for the scholar website?

lol thanks for giving me the shaft on my post keenya :p

WHAT!! im still paying my $750. how did u get them to do that??

haha lol Sorry RobotFood aww, wow that’s a lot Melo…muine would have only been $400. When NU sent me my fina aid package they send me this card saying that they waived my deposit fee because i was at a certain income level and told me to send in the card in place of the deposit and i’ll be all set.

My matriculation fee for JHU is $600. I called GMSP and asked if they paid for it and orginally he said no because he said that you would not get your financial aid award until after you are committed and I told him we get out financial aid award with our admissions letter and also that my matriculation fee was included in my financial aid award and then he said yes. The only thing is that it is due May 1. Definitely do not have the money. I still have not gotten my letter from UNCF though. I hope I get it. I read in the newsletter about someone going to med school on Gates. I will call and ask.

I pray that I get a letter from HSF in NJ today, and I pray I’m a scholar. It would help so much. Good luck to all!

And again I got NOTHING.

I call GMSP and they said that all the letters have been mailed and we should get it between now and saturday.

Good luck to all

Thanks Grad, and for those like I who are receiving it (hopefully by tomorrow), good luck as well!

I am still praying lol.

hey does anyone know what a “science” major would be? cuz technically medical falls under science…

Congratulations on being selected a 2006-2007 Gates Millennium Scholar, and
welcome to the GMS community! The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) competition
attracted a substantial pool of accomplished Nominees and it is indeed a
distinction for you to be recognized for your exceptional academic and
leadership achievements.

To determine the amount of your 2006-2007 academic year award, please forward a
completed GMS Information Sheet and your financial aid award letter from
University of California-Los Angeles as soon as possible but no later than May
26, 2006.

You will be awarded a GMS scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year, based on
your current financial aid packaging in your financial aid award letter and
disbursed by semester or quarter. Each year, GMS will review your financial aid
package to determine your new award amount. This scholarship can be renewed
each year throughout your undergraduate career and onto graduate school in
education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health, and
science.

Should you have any questions about GMS or your scholarship, please do not
hesitate to contact GMS at (toll-free) 1-866-274-4677. Once again,
congratulations on being selected for this distinguished award. We wish you
every success in completing your college education.

this is what the letter looks like, it talks about graduate degree in sciences as well as public health, that is why i am getting confused, if they say it like this in the letter then why do they hate med, law and business school specifically. I dont get it.

/sigh

What is really so hard to understand that Gates will not fund law, business, or med school? Do Bill and Melinda Gates have their reasons? This is one of them:

“The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation established the program to encourage and support students to complete college and continue on to earn masters and doctoral degrees in disciplines in which their ethnic and racial groups are currently underrepresented.”

Frankly, I am dismayed to read the posts that repeatedly discuss the issue of medical school, summer programs, or worse, the possibility of finagling a computer out the program’s generosity. :(

I didn’t get it, oh well.

sorry to hear that onequestion.

i am really starting to get nervous i feel like they already sent out all the letters for the people who won ;(

Hey Im really curious about what is on the scholar website. I was wondering if someone could post the URL or IM me with it…the page after you sign in so I can see it for myself or I dunno…the gates people said the new winners wont get their user names and passwords until later :(

Hi,

Can anyone help shed some light onto this situation please?

I was selected as a semi-finalist for GMS and I sent in the required materials on March 31st. The following Tuesday, April 4th, I called to verify and everything was fine. Today I got a letter saying the, “We regret to inform you…” and was just wondering how they chose scholarship winners after those papers are sent? My GPA is a 3.7 and my EFC was 0… :o/
