Gates Millennium - 2007-2008

When I called, there was also a busy signal.

There was a busy signal when I called as well.

Here is one Gates Scholar making the headline.

"The letter from Harvard is the second of its kind to land in Hall’s mailbox. The first came from Washington University. Both schools offered to pay his tuition, room and board. The Gates Millennium Scholarship fund will pick up all expenses that aren’t covered. "

3 sources offer to pay for his expenses…lol, I’m jealous :)

The first batch is done, right?

And the second batch will be sent out in May?

I would just love to know if I won before May 1st.

I’ve been getting reports that a good number of admitted scholars were notified last Saturday the 7th. If you hear back after May 1st, then chances are you won’t get it.

So there will not be any further notification in April?

My information was received on March 29th according to USPS.

I do have a unique situation concerning family income. I attached documents and a letter to explain it.

There will be other notifications. There are four organizations working under the GMS after all. I got my back in mid-April, give or take a few days. It’s the “I haven’t heard anything and it’s May 1st” that you should be worry about. Last years, there were few who found out they were rejected on May 10th…from the first round!

P.S.
Don’t bother asking the scientific justification or evidence for the May 1st deadline. I got the May 1st date from experience, I don’t know any scholar (and I’ve met about 500) who got their acceptance after May. Mid-April seems to be the majority.

V4runC00l I also got into UCLA and UCB…and got the Regent’s for UCB. I definitely encourage u to go to UCB because of the fact that you will be sponsored by a faculty and will need letters of rec from them when you apply for medical school (I’m in the same situation myself) but I haven’t heard from Bill Gates yet!!! grr!! lol…I hate waiting for the mail. Everyday the mailman comes and doesn’t bring anything for me from Bill Gates…kills me, lol.

have any hispanics gotten anything from Bill Gates yet?

I’m hispanic and i got the scholarship. I found out last Thursday. My counselor and teacher found out before I did (they also received a letter in the mail).

Y2kplaya92, I’m Eritrean. As for colleges, I will be going to Johns Hopkins University.

After becomnig a semi-finalist, What are the odds of becoming a finalist and winning the scholarship

After reaching the second phase, what are the odds of winning the scholarship

After reaching the second phase, what are the odds of winnig the whole thing

About how many finalist were there last year?

Can u email my answers please?

Rejection :frowning:
11,000 nominees to 1000 scholars.

yeah…i’m hispanic and i got my acceptance as a gates scholar around 2 weeks ago…however, my nominator OR recommender didn’t know before i did…i don’t know…but i saw it listed on my awards letter from berkeley along with other 2 other scholarships i had applied for, but have yet to hear from them…odd…but it must be a good thing…

I am sorry to hear that, Thinhle88.

Hi, I was just notified today, April 12th. I’m Hispanic, if that helps. Congrats to all! Anyone know what we do now? Other than send in our financial aid letter…?

Thinhle88, what ethnicity are you?
