Gates Millennium Scholarship - 2008-2009

well from what I know about outside scholarship is that it depends on your school. Most schools or schools that gave you school grants, will take their grant money away…basically, you won’t see your other scholarship money…
There are some exceptions to that rule…that all depend on the school…

what about my question, anyone? does gates pay for pharmacy school since pre-pharm is only 2 undergrad yrs? thanks for ur help!

haha are you going to do pharmacy…cuz thats what I am doing too!!! so excited…what pharmacy school are you looking at??? I am looking at UNC-CH

yeah, pharmacy school!! r u planning on becoming a pharmacist? im going with pharmacologist…im considering UT pharmacy school.
but do u know if gates pays for the pharmacy school? i hope they do.

You guys are so lucky. ;]

If I had the Gates, I would go to my #1 school right now but alas, I can’t. Lucky ducks, lol. Hey ahhhhhh, are you going to Emory in the fall?

awww, sorry to hear that u didn’t get it Mika08 :frowning:

since no one has answered my questions yet, i emailed ms. april asking her whether gates will pay for the pharmacy school or not. hopefully she will reply in the next day or so.

@haha…I am not sure about it too…tell me what april tell you…
and @haha where are you from…cuz I am from Tennessee…lol… but the thing is I am not 100% sure about pharmacy yet…i kinda wanna be a pharmacy manager or something…who knows…

@mika…i PM you…

im from texas…i’ll tell u what april says whenever i get home.

@ahhhhhhhh…im still at school so i haven’t read my email…that said, i found this discussion board which might will answer our questions…

[Pharmacy Program - Forums](http://gmsp.org/scholar/topics.aspx?ForumID=29)

hope this helps!

ok, here is what ms. april had to say:
“Will you be earning your bachelor’s degree after the two years, or are you entering a transitional/accelerated program? If you are in a transitional/accelerated Pharmacy degree program, you would be eligible for up to 5 years of funding.”

I’m going into pre-pharm too at UT

can somebody please answer a very important question???

I haven’t received any notification yet? but i got the e-mail/survey on friday does this mean that i got the scholarship, becuase it asked question like what does the scholarship mean to me and what was my first reaction when i first found out? did anybody else get this? IDK what wrong but i still have not received any notice by mail it’s killing me, and i dont want to really get my hopes up because of the e-mail, i’ve called but all they tell me is to wait till then end of the week then call back next monday??? please help

@haha…if we do a 2+4 program…we do not get a Bachelor’'s degree…that means we will be eligible for 5 years of funding…sounds great to me!!! also…how certain are you for pharmacy…i have a chance to go to UNC-CH as an undergraduate and have a better chance of getting into their pharmacy school…but I choose to go to Emory…b/c I am not sure if I am 100% doing pharmacy…I am like 80% sure…u??

@fatchuy… i am pretty sure you got the scholarship…

thanks ahhhhhh! I hope so :)

Wow, I’m really excited for all the scholars! Yet I didn’t receive any notification whether I got it or not…:'(

same here…i am about 80% sure that i’ll do pharmacy…well, i don’t really wanna become a pharmacist, but I wanna do pharmacology. Pharmacology comes under biology major but im not sure how long we have to study for phamracology - i don’t know the education level in order to become a pharmacologist. If someone knows it, please let me know!

Ahh (I just checked back for a response…nearly a week later, oops). Thanks so much Proud Husky! You are awesome!

does anyone know if the freshman gms information sheet that you send to your college determines the amount of money that goes towards your COA? because we do not find out the actual amount of our housing and meal plans until after the forms are due. so can the my institution request more money at a later time?

thanks!

i know you can request one revision in the spring of your academic year.

tscandalous23, on the scholars welcome page, under administrative guidlines, u can find all this kind of info.

I just talked to a few people at Gates and I just found out that Gates does NOT pay for med school or law school… :/
