Gates Millennium Scholarship 2009-2010

^don’t worry about it. Apparently, finalist and “potential finalist/rejects” receive the same message. We’ll just have to wait and see.

like I hate his anxiety. And I cannot wait until April 1st…

hey dubblyu91

are you sure that both potential finalists/rejects get same message?
i know there is no sure way to check but i was wondering if you were sure.

everyone who hasnt gotten email, call gms->nominee->social security->d.o.b
and see what message you get!!

this might clarify a bunch

From what ive read, it seems that ppl who get emails were chosen. Would they only send rejections by mail?

I’d rather have the rejection quick and painless.

^yeah, somebody who was named a finalist said they received the same message as us.

bcsoccer5k: They do send rejections by mail, but according to last year’s threads, some people do receive finalist notifications by mail as well. We’re all hoping.

oh.
ok well
hopefully cali gets them mails soon already.

Im really worried now because why is it that the finalists are getting emails but some of us have to wait for a letter in the mail? Im more than sure that I included my email in the GMS application process…

^ I got my finalist status notification by email…they told me that they would follow it up with a letter. So how many finalists were there and how many actually get the scholarship?

Anybody know anything about an award ceremony. Please let me know what u know about it. thanks.

this is so scary! :frowning: i’m hispanic and have not heard anything either. i provided my email too… but i’ve talked to several people at the hispanic scholarship fund number and they told me and my mom (i told her to call because i didn’t want them to recognize my voice because i keep calling xD) and they said theyre still sending notifications out until next week, and that if you havent heard yet it doesnt mean that you didnt get it. but i feel like theyre lying to me haha

oh wellllll…

roflhelicopter, sometimes college admission and scholarships are kind of random. Maybe they wern’t looking for someone like you, maybe just a normal person rather than a genius or an english major rather than a chem major. I’m probably not the right person to say how it feels, because I’m a finalist…but seriously, calm down. You’re just bitter. And what constitutes how hispanic you are? thats just stereotypical

two questions:

do you have to have a green card as a min to qualify for this scholarship?

second…how many asians get this scholarship/year?

Thanks!!

omg…im on the phone wit a gmsp representative through the human relations line and he’s like you are supppose to receive both…but he seems confused

ok well another woman says that they are sending out letter notifications tomorrow and they should be here (texas) by next week sometime. she also said that you can also be notified by mail for finalist status…

still have faith!

ok mrs. jones but… can u get notify as a finalist via mail even though u didnt receive an e-mail?

hey everyone. I got my finalist email on tuesday and received my letter in the mail today with the same information.

im hispanic and im in FL in case anyone is wondering. =]

okay, SO. i called… each…and…every…funder/ppl that i could talk to. and they’re all saying the same thing: actual letters should be coming out in the next couple of weeks. they wouldn’t tell me if they’re done notifying finalists yet, but only that ALL applicants should receive an actual letter, meaning news, in the next couple weeks. the lady from the asian fund said by the end of march. the lady from the african american fund said by next friday. so i hate to say it guys, but i seriously don’t think there’s going to be another round :[

hope that helped…

i guess im not a finalist then =/

My friend told me her brother didn’t receive word until the mail arrived. Maybe she was just trying to get my hopes up, but still – I believe we each still have a good chance. It is evident we each really want this since we are writing on this chat board constantly.

Mm, either way, this quote has been my motto the entire year. “I’ve got a theory that if you give 100% in everything you do, somehow, things will work out.” Things will work out, somehow, someway. Best of luck, everyone.
