Gates Millennium Scholarship 2009-2010

i believe you can do any major for undergraduate

Has anyone else had trouble with their fiancial aid officers at the college trying not to meet with them
Idk it might just be me however they dont seem to want to go over stuff like my plans to travel between home and school and my cost for books which will be elevated because im taking 15-18 credit hours instead of the average 12…
Im really gettin p.o.-ed

is it better to sit down with ur financial aid counselor and fill the paperwork or just fax the COA sheet to them?
what are ya’ll doing…?

Im tryn to get an appointment

Success lol i got an appointment yay!!!

Hopkins is close to home so I think I’ll just show up and get them to fill out the form

I can’t fly up to Columbia in NYC (I live in Florida), so I’m going to have to fax it to them. I really want to talk to them about it though, so that everything is done right.

^^^Call the and do a meeting over tha phone

gahhhhhh i had an unpleasant meeting with the financial counselor. like the little gms book/guide says, i tried to ask questions regarding what is going to be covered (what type of ‘personal expenses’ and transportation costs…etc…) and she just said… well. we have estimates for those so …we will use the school estimates… ***. i just hope im fully covered and then have enuff for necessary expenses…

do you kno if student health insurance is covered??

gosh… we drove a loooooong time to talk to this counselor in hopes of getting my funds secured …but i left feelin a bit unsure. i just mite transfer lol.

Yeah, i called my college yesterday and asked to meet with my financial advisor and she told me “There’s no need to…, we know how to fill it out…” LIkee wttf lady i wanna know whats going on… seriouslyy! im annoyed!! Apparently, there’s a special lady who handles Gates stuff. So hopefully everything ends up good with me and everyone else who is trying to get a conference with the financial advisor…

I told them my personal expences n transportation would be different because i have allergies and asthma n id be going home often n they r gonna meet with me now lol

Meds r expencive

@ gogators

did your financial aid advisor factored in computer expenses or are you covering that yourself? i still havent got replies from my financial aid couselor and im kinda irritated. I really want to meet with them so i can get them to add computer related expenses to like . . .personal expenses. . .or at least put it in the financial award letter so my other scholarships can cover it.

They are not covering computers this year. A financial aid officer told me that they heard that last year kids ordered the most expensive computers and packed them with as much as they could and ended up costing up to $5000. and Bill Gates got really mad at the greed… so no computers anymore. I don’t think that’s fair to penalize everybody. Buying a computer for school won’t be easy. I got a job in the kitchen of a nursing home washing pots to save spending money for school…I guess I’m really going to have major dish pan hands to save enough for a computer too. I think Gates should have just put a liit on how much you could spend for the computer… I don’t know anyone going to college who doesn’t need a computer. Oh well, I’m grateful for whatever help he gives me.

Raidergrl… I think you should really reconsider which school you are choosing. An Ivy league is actually very diverse admitting tons of international students and all schools are making a big effort to become more diverse. Also, alumni networking can open a lot of doors for you. My cousin went to Yale and it opened up a lot of doors for him in medical school and beyond…fellowships and all… let’s face it, if 2 people with similar credentials apply for a job, and one is from Wright State and one is from Yale, who do you think they would pick… you have the money now, you should seize the opportunity… don’t hold yourself back… it’s time to be launched and to fly as high as you can go… you have been given an opportunity and a mind that should be used to the fullest. Let go of fear or homesickness and choose the BEST school…others would die for that opportunity.

I have found that wright state has opportunities for me that when i talked to the people at harvard and yale i was told they couldnt promise Me im not worried about being home sick i just want to be close to home i have responcibilities and just because i go off to school doesnt mean they will go away so ya i kinda cant go too far

Theres a difference in being a star academically and just being a face in the crowd

okay dude,
i know someone whos a gates scholars and KNOW FOR A FACT that he DOES NOT qualify for Pell Grant. My parents know his family personally. they own 3 successful stores. Bought a hugemongous house just now (after moving out of their other hugemongous house), and they have five brand new cars (BMW, convertibles, lexus, etc). He doesn’t have a job because hes loaded. but i’m sure his parents cheat on their taxes. they can just report false profits. and that really stinks because he recieved the award, and there are people out there that truly qualify financially for the scholarship and he lies and gets it??

that really makes me sad.

Sadly its legal to write businesses that parents own as losses on taxes my friends parents did it until they got audited lol those that cheat get it in the end

True that raidergurl. Im a great believer of karma.

I have gotten another scholarship other than the Gates, and it is $10,000. Do u think I should accept it or do you think I should decline it to give it to someone else? but I really would like the scholarship to be in my future resume. What do u guys think?
