Since it’s getting close to the deadlines for Ivys and many other schools I thought I’d make a thread for us to share info., ask q’s, etc.

I’ll start:

For the sections on apps. that are optional, like Harvard’s optional essay, do most students fill them out or is it only in rare situations that they are filled out?

(Occasionally, students feel that college application forms do not provide a sufficient opportunity to convey important information about themselves or their accomplishments. If there is something you would like us to know, please inform us below. If you wish to include an additional essay, you may do so. <----PROMPT for Harvard’s extra essay)

Also, I just found this: http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/forms/schoolreport_1011.pdf

So, I’m confused. How does my GC fill this out? Paper based? Online? If it is online, how does it work?

Also, are there any more surprises like this? I didn’t even know about this Secondary School Report until today.

^ Your GC fills it out. My GC told me that everything is done online and she just needed to submit something she already had on file (or something like that) to the CommonApp site.

Viggy, my GC just filled that out as best he could, and then stapled it to the secondary school report. We mailed them in hard copy because my schools pdf system is all messed up.

ALSO:

Am I at a huge disadvantage if I put “Pre-med” as one of my academic interests??? I either want to be a doctor, or a scientific researcher (or both), and I feel like I would have a better chance of getting into these schools if I put “scientific researcher”. Also, my yale and harvard essay was about my love for science. hmmmm what to do???

^I’m putting medicine as my career goal for my applications.
