General UVa Tips/Tricks/Advice!

Hey everyone!
I’m an incoming first year for c/o 2020 (going to the A School for Urban & Environmental Planning). Does anyone have any general tips, tricks, or advice for UVa? They can be as silly or as serious as you want; I think this would benefit all incoming students!

Try to meet as many people as you can in the first few weeks, before people get settled into a group of friends.

Stay open minded about fraternities or sororities. There are a very wide range of them, and don’t let yourself be turned off to the whole system by exposure to one or two that you don’t like.

(P.S. - I am a grad of the planning program.)

The A school is small and you’ll know most of your classmates, which makes UVA feel smaller very quickly.

You probably won’t have a very stressful time registering for classes, but I try to tell students not to be fixated on putting together the “perfect” schedule the first time around. We actually use the drop-add period to shop for classes here, so the course list you put together at Orientation isn’t necessarily the one you’ll have when drop-add is over.
