George Mason -> University of Virginia

Hello everyone,

I need your assistance. I am currently a Junior at George Mason University. I chose GMU due to its fair tuition rates and the university being so close to home. I am currently studying Accounting/Finance and I will have 70 credits by the end of Spring 2017. I have a 3.66 GPA. UVA has always been in the back of my thoughts. To my knowledge, UVA has one of the best business programs in the country and seems to be very respected.

To be clear, I am OK with finishing my bachelor’s degree at GMU but I would just like to know if I could ever get into UVA. No ragrets right ?! haha.

The current deadline for transfer student applications is March 1st. The problem is that I have never taken an SAT test due to the fact that I went through the Northern Virginia CC system which did not require the test for admission. In hindsight, I definitely should have taken this exam in my high school days. The next test date is March 11th and the score release is on the 13th of April.

I guess my question is … Is it possible to get admitted to UVA with the SAT score release being more than a month after the application deadline?

Suggestions are definitely welcome! I may be unaware of specific restrictions so please inform me! Thank you.

@amirva This is not really a “chances” post so I think it is in the wrong forum and you will get more informed responses if you post it in the UVA forum. However, the definitive answer needs to come from UVA Admissions, so it would be best to call or email them directly. Admissions is pretty involved on the UVA forum too.

Thank you for your reply, will do!

Does UVa require the SAT for transfers? Usually colleges go by your college record only.

I believe so, I got this from https://admission.virginia.edu/transfer/faq

“Submitting SAT or ACT scores is optional for transfer students unless they are applying to the McIntire School of Commerce or the Teacher Education program in the Curry School of Education. Students applying to Commerce must submit the SAT or ACT (and the TOEFL or IELTS for international students). Students applying to the Curry School of Education must submit results from the SAT, ACT or PRAXIS exam. Please see Curry’s website for minimum score requirements.”

I would be transferring as a finance student.

Another option is to look at one of McIntire’s masters programs. Unlike the Darden School, you can attend these programs right after receiving your bachelors.

Call the Admissions Office - https://admission.virginia.edu/connect. They don’t take notes or write down names and you’ll definitely get the right answer.

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses.

The answer to the FAQ on the website is correct.

Hey did anyone get any scholarships from George mason
