The financial aid portal updated for me, and holy moly is this university expensive. COA for me is currently predicted to be 55k, which is way more than I can afford. I find it interesting how the COA for some other schools is sitting at 34K without appeals, so I don’t know how my COA for George Washington could be 20k more than those.
I guess GW is going into the same boat as Lehigh, way too expensive.
Unfortunately lot of colleges are becoming a reach financially for many people. I see the other way, people are ready to pour to money to get into these programs. My daughter would have had a better chance if she applied ED but we were worried about the finances and even she was not much interested in ED to any college.
I did not get any email, I just checked the self service portal. It wasnt there when applications initially released, so I suppose it took awhile to put everyones finances into the site.
Yeah, because George Washington also uses the CSS Profile. With the CSS Profile GWU is able to create an estimate of the need-based aid I would theoretically need, however that is subject to change once they process my FAFSA.
@V3rnor , I called the GWU financial aid. Finally figured out that they are still processing the financial aid for all the students. They are not waiting for FAFSA, they are offering aid through CSS.
The engineering programs (15 schools, a mix of small/large & public/private, most stronger in ENG than George Washington), which my son was admitted to, COA-wise are in the 35-85k spectrum after merit. Guess which one is at 85k, >20k above the second most expensive, and the only private school which did no award merit to him😀.
DS told me that there was an “estimated” financial aid offer - but it was just 10K for having two kids in college at the same time. I’ll have to look more closely later. Our FAFSA said it processed a week ago; CSS is submitted.
My son won’t let us look at his computer, so I’m getting everything secondhand from him… So far, he’s only told us his merit aid, nothing about financial aid of any other kind. After this week, once he has all the decisions, we will sit down and go through EVERYTHING with him.
