Okay, so since we get to choose dorms and such before RD, I need to know which hall to live in! Since I’ll be going to Elliott, wouldn’t Thurston make sense? I’m not sure if I want as much craziness as I’ve heard Thurston has. Where are you guys thinking about living?

I’m going for Potomac all the way. Newer, cleaner, close enough to thurston to enjoy the parties to have a place to get away from it too

Hey guys congrats!

Just a heads up:
As I sit here typing this in my Potomac House dorm room I urge you to consider living here over Thurston-- TRUST ME. You are not missing out on anything but moldy rooms, vomit in the elevators, and loud obnoxious drunk people almost all week long. Potomac is just as much fun, you are CERTAINLY not missing out on anything because parties are almost always busted in Thurston and dorm parties while they are common-- is not really the GW scene (frats, clubs, hookah bars etc. are more so our scene) Potomac is clean-- quieter and I swear you’ll make your best friends here, I have and hey… I WANTED THURSTON, in fact I requested to live there-- and guess what the housing gods knew that would have been just plain old mean so they GAVE ME POTOMAC. Make the good decision on your housing app, pick Potomac you won’t regret it and you’re more likely to get it over RD students!

Also just because you’re in Elliot doesn’t mean ALL of your classes will be in the Elliot School Building on E Street. What school you are in doesn’t always determine where your classes are an it doesn’t make sense to live closer to one academic building over another-- you will be walking all over campus for your classes. @katelynsmith36

Thanks Laurenrwp! I will definitely keep that in mind

I got in GW!! Wooohooo!!!

Congrats to you all! You can choose any dorms offered for Freshman. If you wish anything but Thurston, do not put it in your list at all. Even if is the 7th choice, you’ll end up in Thurston. As for themes, not relevant at all, no one pays attention to them. I was in Thurston in Freshman year, the 1st 2 weeks are crazy, but then it calms down a lot.
Good Freshman dorms are Madison and Potomac. I am not sure what choices you have this year, but if you list them, I will let you know what is good. Do not underestimate the Mount Vernon choices. They are clean, big, apartment style and they are only a shuttle away. A lot of the classes are available there anyway, and all the soccer, track fields are there so it has a mini campus feel. Good luck!
