George Washington University Fall 2020 Transfers

@user_786688 ok I am straight up panicking! I emailed UMD with the info you sent and someone replied and said they would not be able to give me an enrollment date extension ? What do I do? Did you manage to get one?

@RBevan oh god, i hadn’t emailed them yet. if they really can’t, then this whole thing totally sucks. i’ll email them sometime this week and ask, and i’ll let you know what they say. if they don’t allow extensions, i won’t commit there, and i’ll drop it off my list. at the end of the day, i’d rather go to GW then UMD, and i also have other back up schools with later commit dates in july, if i don’t get into GW.

I still emailed and asked for an early read. I don’t expect one but had to ask. I explained how I cannot afford to pay an enrollment somewhere else then forfeit it to because I would choose GW over the one I have already been admitted to.

@izrose I’m curious to know what they say if you don’t mind sharing- but I understand if you do

I emailed them saying I am requesting an early read because I have enrollment deadlines on June 1st and cannot afford to pay an enrollment deposit elsewhere then forfeit it and they responded…
"Hi,

Unfortunately, we do not offer early reads. I know this is frustrating with other deadlines quickly approaching. We understand if you need to put a deposit down at another school.

We are working the fastest we can with getting admissions decisions out, but COVID is throwing a few bumps along the way. Sorry for the inconvenience

Sincerely,
Justyn"

@izrose I’m sorry ? thanks for sharing. they are doing a really poor job handling this imo

Does anyone think there’s a chance of them releasing before June?

I doubt it, especially because they moved the deadline for apps to May, but I guess there’s a possibility they could finish reading apps earlier than anticipated or not get a lot more apps by the new deadline. But I’m trying not to get too hopeful

I was contacted regarding my membership in Phi Theta Kappa and they made it clear they are still in the process of reading applications. I do not think they will come any earlier than we expect.

Has anyone asked for enrollment extensions from colleges they’ve already been admitted to? If so, how did you ask?

@izrose I only had 2 days left to respond to a school and they hadn’t given me my FA package yet, so I called and explained how I couldn’t commit without knowing the financial cost. They then sent me a deadline extension request form, where it very explicitly stated that extensions are only granted for financial reasons/dire circumstances. But also I know of schools where you just call and they’re like yeah sure whatever lol

I have been accepted to NYU (my #2 choice). They are requiring a response within 2 weeks along with withdrawal of all of your other applications upon deposit! They will not grant an extension (I’ve already asked) and GW is maintaining their decisions will not be released before June!!

@NewDay20 The school I was talking about in the post above yours is actually NYU haha. They ended up giving me an extension until the 22nd, but that is still way too early from GWU’s expected decision date.

I guess I will just enroll at my other option and forfeit if I get into GW? Has anyone heard if they give good financial aid to transfers? Also do we typically know by July 1st? That is when I would have to put a housing payment down

Last year they got back to me in August, they did not give me much aid even with an EFC of 0. Keep all your options open though.

@transferx2020 have you decided what you will do?

@NewDay20 Honestly if NYU doesn’t give me enough aid (which it probably won’t), I won’t go. I got into another school and their deadline is in July, so I’d probably then wait it out for GWU.

@transferx2020, I was told by NYU that they will not increase my aid. Thinking I am also going to wait it out and hope for the best. If not, I will go with my #3 choice, which has offered me a great aid package.

I really regret applying on April 15th!! I wish I applied in March so I would potentially hear back earlier.

hey i also applied to policomm!
