George Washington University Fall 2020 Transfers

Technically Juniors are supposed to live on campus, but there is a massive housing shortage due to the largest freshman dorm being renovated, so most Juniors who apply for housing exemptions are getting them!

@bamba2208 why do you say that? I’m just a bit curious so I can understand the process more. Also if I don’t hear back, I’ll have to commit to BU.

I officially committed to another school last night, so it now no longer matters how long they take with their decisions. They are losing out on good students, not to mention tuition revenue. GW needs to get their act together.

Where’d you commit to?

I sent an email last night asking if a second wave will be coming before June, and basically got the generic “they will all be out by June or July” answer. So if you have a June 1st deadline like me you may want to consider committing somewhere else and then withdrawing from that school if you get in to GW :frowning:

They just emailed me this, so they’re still reviewing applications. I probably will have to commit to another school because I don’t think I can wait any longer than June 8th , which is my deadline for my other school.

Hello

Thank you for your interest in transferring to GWU!

We are missing your high school transcript as part of your application to GWU. Students who have not yet completed 30 college level credits post-high school are required to submit high school transcripts for our review. Since you have not yet completed 30 credits, we cannot move forward with your file until we have this information. Please have your high school transcript sent to us as soon as possible so we can continue to review your file.

whether you’re committed or not, make sure to follow @GWtransfersfall2020 (on instagram) so you can get to know other prospective transfer students for the fall 2020 semester.

@mwkopfer I committed to NYU

@balletkat oh wow no way!!! i was told by a gw student housing exemption applications all filled up a month or two ago? did housing change that rule?

According to last year’s forum, a small wave of decisions came out on May 22 and the second wave didn’t come out until June 20 :frowning: I really hope we don’t have to wait that long, but we’ll see

I heard that they really wanted more transfer students this year, so I dont understand why they are being so difficult I think as a transfer you should be able to live off campus if you want, but its also $$$ unless you can find a roommate to share. there might be groups looking to add though. currently there are plenty of apartments as most students are waiting to hear about fall plans.

I cannot wait until June 20th. According to last years forum, a lot of students were unhappy with the admissions process. The admissions committee must’ve taken some feedback from that. I do really hope we hear by the end of this week or the next because that would only be fair.

@ablessinggg I hope so too! You’re right, if they’re smart they would have taken the feedback they received from students last year, but who knows

I don’t know if this helps anyone who hasn’t received a decision but housing for transfers opens June 11 and the enrollment deposit($800) is due the 22nd or 23 of June as well. Stay hopeful for the second wave to be released June 1. I applied early March maybe that’s why I received my decision so early considering that decisions are rolling.

Thank you @RealLuchiano! Hopefully it comes soon. I doubt it is really rolling though because I submitted all my materials on March 17 and haven’t heard anything yet

I do think at this point there is a waitlist, but since all the study abroad students will be on campus next semester, there is simply not enough housing for everyone, so I know a few people that have already gotten off the exemption waitlist. Maybe it just depends on luck!

Hi everyone! I’m a current junior at GWSB. So GW is trying to lower enrollment by 20%, and I suspect that means they will have less transfer students as well. Well, that would usually be the case. It seems likely we will lose a lot of international students so you could see a big waitlist.

The easiest school to transfer into will be SEAS. They are trying to raise the percentage of the overall student body that’s in SEAS. The hardest to get into will be Elliot and CCAS political science.

Usually, almost all juniors live on campus. Hopefully the people who take a gap semester will equal out with the people who were supposed to study abroad but didn’t. If that’s the cases you all will almost certainly live on campus. DC law requires juniors to live on campus, only about 100 people get the lottery to live off. Plus, you wanna live on campus. Our dorms are much nicer compared to other schools and the price will probably end up the same as off campus. All upperclassmen dorms have a kitchen so that’s pretty nice.

GW is always the last for decisions, even for freshmen. One of my friends applied to GW and she will probably have to commit to UVA before GW even releases decisions. They’re going to lose their best transfers by doing this. They aren’t Georgetown, they don’t have the luxury to wait this long and still get a lot of commits.

I was accepted to transfer to W&M but I’m still 50/50 if I’ll go. But if anyone had any questions about GW feel free to let me know!

Nothing today

I’m hopeful for tomorrow or Monday but it might just be wishful thinking

I cant believe we haven’t heard anything yet. This is actually insane.

@ablessinggg I know! And I doubt anything will come out today because it looks like they usually release around 1 pm
I guess we can hope for Monday
