Georgetown 2015 Fall Transfer Thread

@bhollyb and did you reach out to that person and get a reply or did they just straight up reach out to you

Hi guys! I just wanted to pop in and wish everyone who is still waiting to hear back from Georgetown good luck! Please don’t think that because you haven’t heard back yet that you haven’t gotten in! I remember starting to get antsy and was about to put down my deposit for Berkeley when my acceptance came one evening in my email! (I also had a bit of a scare because instead of sending me an acceptance letter by mail, they accidentally sent me a first year extended waitlist offer.)

I also wanted to encourage all of you who end up admitted to apply to a LLC! Ulterior motive, but I will be RA-ing for the Justice and Diversity in Action LLC this coming year. If you come join me, you’ll get to be just one floor above the Transfer LLC and I love to bake cookies! LLCs are a great chance to join a passionate community (and get nice housing on campus).

Also, I would definitely encourage you all to apply to a pre-orientation program. I was one of two transfers in FOCI (First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement) and they were definitely looking for more of us. They’re a lot of fun and it’s a great way to get to know campus before everyone else!

I’m happy to chat with anyone who has any questions or just wants to chat!

has anyone received an acceptance lately?

Does anyone think there will be any acceptances today or till 1st of June? Or are they done with acceptances and there are only waitlists and rejects left?

Hey guys! I’ve been watching this thread since its formation, and after not hearing from GU I’ve lost a lot of faith. I found this article on The Hoya website, and in some of the final paragraphs it says 190 transfer students were accepted. They make it sound like everyone who was accepted has already been contacted too. Also, the article also says all science major spots for the class of 2019 have been filled. Do you think that will play a role in transfers hoping to get into a science major? Let me know what you guys think.

Interesting article.

The article does a nice job providing an overview of the numbers game the admissions committee works with to maintain the optimal college and graduation class sizes.

In regards to “all science major spots for class of 2019 have been filled”, this refers to Frosh admissions. Unless you’re transferring in as a 2nd Semester Frosh, this doesn’t apply to you. If you plan to major in a science field, you may still get accepted.

As for “190 transfer students were accepted”, this refers to the number of transfer offers to yield around 150 transfers, not whether admissions decision have been completed or sent out.

As a side note, it’s nice to know, that as a transfer applicant, if you accept the waitlist, you’re pretty much guaranteed admissions… if you can hold out for the Spring Semester!

Does that mean fewer students will be placed on the wait list? Is the wait list considered then a “guaranteed admissions” kind of deal?

Yeah I believe you read the part about the waitlist wrong. 2000 students are offered a waitlist position, and 1200 will accept that offer. That doesn’t mean 1200 will BE accepted to Georgetown. I was on the waitlist last year, along with many others, and very few of us were accepted. Also, there is no spring semester admittance…

I think–from what I got out of the article–the transfer wait list is different. Were you a frosh or transfer wait list last year @Luthsn ? For transfers, it looks like they were saying you get, essentially, guaranteed admission if you’re placed on the extended wait list (which is about 25 people, I think?). They say they’ll basically guarantee you admission on the first day of registration if there are spots and if there aren’t, then you can start spring semester. So hopefully this means being wait listed can be a good way of clawing our way into the class by the skin of our teeth lol…this whole process has had be going crazy for the last month. ;(((

I am so worried as this is supposedly the last week to send off admission decisions, and from what people have been posting in this forum there haven’t been any acceptances lately. So, either they are done with acceptances, or there’s a batch of big envelopes ready to be sent at any time. I guess we’ll confirm or disregard our hypotheses very soon.

Do you know what the difference is between the extended wait list and normal wait list for transfer students?

Got on waitlist

@Smithernss people who accept a spot on the wait list will be notified by a certain date if they got accepted, rejected or placed on an extended wait list, and those who accept a spot on the extended wait list, according to the recent Hoya article, are basically guaranteed an offer of admission in the fall or spring depending on space.

@rjc016 what school did you apply to if you don’t mind my asking? Good luck!

@jumblebee thank you! I applied to the college as a biochemistry major. The email came at 12:01 am EST

Waitlisted for MSB… does anyone have advice as to what I can do other than send an update of my second semester grades? I didn’t do as well in a certain stats class as I should have, and I’m currently at a loss as to what this decision means…

Accepted into the college! I have already accepted Stanford’s offer though. Hopefully my spot will go to someone on this thread. Good luck!

how were you guys notified?

ahh email okay so i got rejected it seems
