***GEORGETOWN CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD***

@collegemomjam just click on link takes you to fb page and she has to make a request to join. They probably confirm that she is admitted then her request to join is approved.

OK, thanks! I’m not a facebook user, so thanks for your patience!

I’m applying regular decision. For your applications, did you guys attach a picture of yourselves?

My daughter did attach an optional photo. She was accepted. Not sure it matters, but maybe it’s nice for them to put a face to the app.

@collegemomjam ok thank you!

is there anything we can do to increase our chances for regular decision?

@balletgirl17 take advantage of the optional resume section and spend time on the school specific essay connecting it with your personal passions and experiences. Good luck!

@balletgirl17 I wouldn’t stretch to add a resume if you don’t think that you would be able to add that much to it that isn’t already on your application. That being said, additional outside recommendations might be helpful, or any other test scores.

Just for everyone’s general information/awareness:

[quote]
This year’s Early Action applicant pool grew significantly, up 11% from last year…

The Georgetown College and the Walsh School of Foreign Service applicant pools each grew by 13%, while the McDonough School of Business and School of Nursing and Health Studies saw increases of 7% and 6%, respectively. Given that our Regular Decision pool typically mirrors trends seen in Early Action, we are anticipating an increase in applications come January as well.

The Early Action pool continues to reflect Georgetown’s commitment to enrolling a diverse class. This year’s pool is 10% African American, 13% Hispanic/Latino, 16% Asian American, 7% International, and 2% Native American.

The academic quality of the applicant pool was as strong as ever, making admissions committee decisions immensely difficult. We admitted just under 12% (931) of the 7,822 applicants. Students were admitted from 45 of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 33 foreign countries. Admitted student are, on average, in the top 2% of their class. The SAT Critical Reading middle-50% range for admitted students is 710-770, and the SAT Math middle-50% range is 700-770. The ACT has become increasingly popular, with more than half of our applicant pool taking the ACT. The ACT middle-50% range for admitted students is 32-35. We will continue to observe effects of the restructuring of the SAT, which has skewed scores higher than the older version of the test and could cause the SAT to regain market share.

In the charts below, you will find additional statistics for this year’s Early Action pool, as well as Early Action application numbers by undergraduate program…

Wow… I applied for MSB and those stats are ridiculous. The average admit had a 1% class rank?? Anybody know how RD will compare to this? I know EA is more selective, but how much exactly?

Do I have any chance

georgetown only wants 1 lettter of rec correct?? why is everyone sending 2???

whats the easiest school to apply to at georgetown

@deeznuts They require one and prefer that it is in a subject area relevant to your school (like McDonough wanted Social Studies or Math, I think). But students have the option of submitting a second and that can be from any subject area.

@allima based on the stats, it seems like all of the schools are more or less equally competitive. I would say you have your best shot at the school that seems to match your resume/academic strengths the best.

Anyone get accepted without a resume? I applied EA and was deferred. My app looks really strong right now, but the only thing that seemed weak was the EC section. My ECs are not anything amazing, but the very limited space on the Georgetown app made it even tougher. I used the space very well IMO, highlighting leadership positions and awards, but I feel as though I put myself at a disadvantage compared to people who had the free space available on a full resume. Also, I’m sending the optional rec and will be taking two more subject tests in January(only had 1 EA) and hopefully that really boosts my app too.

I got in without a resume. I didn’t include it because I didn’t think I needed it with the extracurriculars that I had listed. I think doing those things will definitely boost your application. Good luck! @HSStudent938

My daughter submitted a resume and was accepted EA. She also thought the application was a bit limiting for the EC’s. She also sent in the optional rec. Sounds like you are strengthening your application quite a bit!

@luvquizbowl Thank you! Yeah, I guess a resume would not have added too much for me either. Its just that the such limited space really only let me put the name of the EC and maybe a leadership position or an award I got. Some of the ECs it would have been nice to describe things I’ve done in them, but there is literally no space. I talked about two of my main ECs quite a bit in two of the three essays, so hopefully that was enough.

@collegemomjam I agree that the space was quite limiting. And yes, definietly trying to do all I can to strengthen my EA app! I am also thinking of doing a LOCI, but there’s not much in terms of ECs/awards that happened since November to update on.

@HSStudent938 Do you have it set up that your scores go automatically to Georgetown? I think you have to do that in order to have them get there on time to count. Hopefully you will do really on them and that would be a tremendous boost for your application!

got notified for my interview contact today, lit!
