Georgetown Class of 2024 Applicants Discussion Thread

Found a glitch in GU’s system that I was freaking out about last night, putting it here so nobody else has to.

Under “Preview Application Proof” at the bottom of the portal, my check box for “check if you are applying for Early Action” is empty. I freaked out because I thought it was a problem with my some of my official scores being sent in after November 1st, but I called the Admissions Office this morning and they said it’s a glitch and it’s fine.

Hi, I am an IB student from Mumbai. I applied to Georgetown in RD. submitted additional LOR from my Cancer Research project guide who is a Dr. It doesn’t show up in the portal

When the Dr. submitted your letter did he get an email receipt? Also, did you check your email? I believe when additional letters of rec are received (not by teachers) you should have received a notification that it was received and also indicating that it will NOT show up on your portal.

Do decisions come out on December 15th or is it that week?

Would like the know this as well and I believe they send actual letters.

They send actual letters. December 15th is a Sunday, so I assume they mail it out Saturday then you get the decisions that week?

Quick question: For the special skills/talents essay … I’m already writing about my music activity that I am heavily involved in for the half-page essay so I was thinking of writing about something a little different and not academic-related. I’m really into makeup and I taught myself completely and I’ve grown to be really good at it. I don’t even wear makeup on a daily basis like at all I just do it at home for fun and some nights out. Would this be a good thing to write about? I would embellish it obviously.

So, online it says decisions come out BY December 15th. Does that mean we would receive the letter beforehand? Meaning anytime this week we could get a notification?

I was reading last years discussion about Gtown and it looks like you won’t hear anything before 12/15 and it might even take a few days after 12/15 to receive the letter in the mail based on where you live!

Georgetown sends early action decision letters a couple days before December 15th so that they all arrive on time. Usually most people receive them on the 15th, but depending on where you live you can get them a day or two before then. @Giulia123

@benandjerrys101 I believe your special skill would make a fine and interest essay. I wrote about my graphic arts hobby and some silly projects I do with it that has become fairly intricate and artistically strong. I think it shows a more personable side of you that isn’t just a kid marketing their academics and ECs to a college, its honest.

(Funny story: my mom’s best friend got in Yale after an interview in which she responded to a “What did you read on the train ride here?” with “Cosmopolitan”. It’s honest, it’s genuine, it’s human.

Friends,

What do you guys think my chances are looking like:

SAT: 1470
SAT II: 750 Math II, 780 Spanish, 760 US history
Grades all A’s and A-'s except for a C (yikes i know) in the most notorious class at my school: Precalc Honors.
Essays and Interview I felt really confident about.

Extracurrics: President of the Investment Club where we handle a real 50k portfolio, personal business that teaches financial literacy as an after school program, tennis captain and MVP, violin, MIT LaunchX attendee, internship with a senator in my home country of Mexico.

Feeling a little worried with Dec 15th so close…

On the timing of decisions, I applied last year and received by acceptance by mail on Saturday, December 15th. I live in New York. The admissions office tweeted Thursday night that they were about to mail.

Hey we have pretty similar stats! don’t stress, I also got a C (Honors Algebra 2 tho). A lot of admissions reps and counselors have told me the more important thing is having an upward trend and continuing to challenge yourself. Are you still in accelerated math track?

Since the 15th this year is a Sunday, would the letters be sent Saturday so it will be delivered by Monday the 16th?

Future Hoyas (hopefully),

Given that decisions are released in less than two weeks (AHHHH), could someone please chance me to give me some sort of preparation for rejection season. Reading past decisions of Georgetown applicants, I am no longer sure where I stand in regards to the chances of being accepted. Thanks in advance, and best of luck!

I was placed in Calculus Honors so I guess but not AP Calc…

Hi everyone. I’ve been a little bit late to the party here. Just have some concerns regarding my Early Action Application. I submitted my app around October and did not get any interview offers from Georgetown. I am an international student but attending boarding school in a suburb of a major US City. GTown did not send me any emails regarding this nor waive my interview requirement. Does this mean they lack interest in my application and would be a disadvantage?

@nerdyextrovert have you tried contacting them about this? there might just not be any alumni in your area
