I got my letter this time last year and was waitlisted. I’m expecting the same this time around too, oh well.

To be clear, those aren’t exactly contradictory things. As it stands, it’s very unlikely that more than a few will get off the waitlist, so your chances of admission are still in the unlikely category.

Flowerhead,

Did being a sophmore transfer and having a low SAT score and high school gpa (1210/1900, 3.6 HS GPA) help the cause to my rejection? And if so, will they factor in as much when I apply again next year if I keep my college GPA (3.9). I would say my letters of recommendation and EC’s are right in line with other transfers tht made it

waitlisted…

waitlisted for the MSB. Just received an e-mail today. I can’t believe it!! I actually expected a rejection because it was really late. What can I do…please help me, it’s the last year I can transfer, i’m an international student!

Does anyone know how to reject an offer of admission? Not that I don’t want to go, but it’s just too far from my home.

@Georgetown:

It’s generally nice to send the admissions office a letter thanking them for their consideration and telling them you’ve decided to go elsewhere - such as this one from my high school days:

Dear -----,

I appreciate the time and efforts that the admissions staff invested in my application. I was very happy when I received my letter of acceptance for admission. However, as things turn out, I have decided to pursue an alternate plan, and I am advising you that I will not be attending ------- next semester

I realize and appreciate the incredibly large pool of applicants that you and your staff have had to analyze and evaluate. I hope that my decision is not an inconvenience to you or them. I especially appreciated the in-depth presentations that your assistant admissions director gave while visiting ------. The on-campus presentation that my father and I attended was also very informative. I will always recommend ------- highly to any -------- undergraduates.

Sincerely,
drob320

I hope that helps! I’m sorry to hear you aren’t planning to attend Georgetown, but I’m sure a potential waitlist candidate appreciates the decision.

flowerhead, do you know if at least they use the waitlist for just a few? Or is there a possibility that they don’t use it at all and we are all going to be finally rejected?
Does it depend on how many students enroll for all schools or does it depend specifically on the school you applied to?
Thanks

Sorry guys, I’m a little too busy to answer individual questions. Good luck to peeps on the waitlist.

does anyone know how many waitlist candidates are expected to get off?

same question here…i’m going crazy

offered a spot bc i was on the waitlist but i turned it down so good luck to another person on the waitlist!!!

@Athletics12
what school did you apply to and how did they notify you that you were off?

Hi! My name is Mark and I’m going into my sophomore year at American University. I have decided recently last Spring semester that I want to pursue a Business degree rather than the original Economics B.S I was looking to achieve and want to pursue a better business education than that being taught at American University.

I am only going to be applying to Georgetown because I still want to remain close to my AU friends. I pledged an off campus fraternity in the Fall and was able to be a major part of the fraternity’s re-chartering and new found campus recognition. I have built great bonds at American University but really want to give myself the best opportunity at the best education.

So anyways I’m asking this enlightened forum for their opinions on my chances.

I have a 3.3 at the moment but with next Fall’s classes that should be put up to a 3.4-3.5 before applying.

SAT
Math 730
CR 680
W 700

ACT 30
HS GPA 3.44

I went to a Prep School for the majority of my HS career. I was Captain of the Track Team, Founder of the Faculty Hiring Committee, a Residential Assistant in my dorm, and Dorm Representative to Student Congress.

I have already finished an Economics minor at AU in my freshman year. I re-founded the Sigma Alpha Mu chapter at AU and was the original Recruitment Chairman and have now taken on the role of Treasurer/Exchequer for the Fall of my sophomore year. I have helped organize philanthropy events for my fraternity as well.

I also have three industry related internships:
Summer before college - Accounting Intern for a Biochem Company
This summer - Small mortgage company intern
Coming Fall - Secured internship with large regional bank
I am looking to apply directly to MSB since I am seeking a business degree and look forward to hearing some opinions! IF any more info is needed please send me a pm and I’ll be sure to respond asap.
Thanks!
Mark

i was very involved in my sorority at my first university but didn’t even mention this in the transfer application’s “activities” section because i wanted georgetown to take me seriously as an academic candidate. the essay question on the application basically asks why you want to transfer there, and if i were you i wouldn’t even mention your fraternity… that you want to be close to your au friends and your fraternity but you want a better education than au can offer is not a good enough reason for gtown admissions. also, you have good scores but you’re really gonna have to raise that GPA to show that your priority is excellent academics, especially if you make this argument in your essay. best of luck to you!

i was wondering if i have any chance at all in getting into georgetown
I had a 3.0 gpa (due to family circumstances) in hs and a 24 on my act i am currently a freshman student at colorado state university maintaining hopefully a 3.5 i am working almost full time and taking 15 credits. i am wanting to major in international business with a concentration in marketing
i have a 1110/1600 on my sat. my essays are very strong.
advice?
i want to transfer in to georgetwon as a sophmore.
should i maybe transfer to a nearby school such as JMU and then try to tranfer into georgetown as a junior?

As a transfer applicant you’ll need to aim higher than a 3.5. I had a 3.7, a strong essay, and strong extracurriculars, and I still didn’t get in. You still have a chance though, so good luck.

And no, you should definitely not transfer first to another school first if your end goal is transferring to Georgetown. Transferring more than once looks very bad no matter how you try to explain it away.

Who told you this?

Its just common sense… “programs” are made for universities for a reason its not a collect all the pieces from different places and get your degree game.
