Georgia Tech Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

This is the official discussion thread for Georgia Tech Class of 2029 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.

Is it true that Gatech send finaid doc request emails to all the applicants missing FAFSA, CSS etc.?

Yes. It goes to everyone

On the Georgia Tech admissions snapshot page (Admission Snapshot | Undergraduate Admission), there is a table that says the average rigor “score” for first year admissions is 11.0.
Does anybody know how that is calculated?
Thanks.

I answered this question on your thread but wanted to post here too:

I appreciate your posting here too.
It just seems a bit high that the average sum of AP/DE courses across all discipline at Georgia Tech is 11.0.

It is for the reasons stated above and this is substantiated by UGA having a similar number. GT has an 8 percent OOS acceptance rate and takes only those Georgia students who are at the very top of their class. Do you attend to Georgia high school? If so, you will see the caliber of kids who are admitted and understand why this number is so high.

Are there stats IS vs OOS? Always hear that if OOS stats/etc. must be near perfect given the low admit.

The following webpage has information by state, by region, and by high school within GA.

No, but my guess is they are comparable at least in the Atlanta Metro. The low out of state acceptance rate is driven by the incredible increase in application numbers which are 5 times the in state applicants. It is just a numbers game. Those who are accepted in state are typically the strongest students in the school. With some exception for national or international award winners, etc. there doesn’t seem to be much academic difference on paper (similar test scores, similar gpa and similar rigor). It is not unusual for some of these large public school Atlanta area kids to come in with 45 or more credits.

Portal mentions March 28th… getting pretty late to find out.

According to the data summary from the school data set in the link… OOS students had average SAT/ACT scores above that of IS students for every single reported state (less Puerto Rico)… again that’s averaged data so make of it what you will.

Quiet here. Any GA people awaiting decisions? I think tomorrow is the day?

Son got accepted to the summer term. Anyone familiar with this?

Yes! My youngest was accepted for Fall and opted in to iGniTe to start in the summer. It is short (starts late June), classes as a whole are easier (lots of As), and a great way to transition to campus. You typically take 6-7 hours so a lighter load. If interested in fraternity rush, a good way to participate over the summer. He opted in for that reason and because everyone who participated that he knew loved it. A side benefit is you get a few extra hours which can be helpful when registering for spring classes as time tickets come out based on hours.

Thanks for the info, iGniTe or challenge look interesting. Logistically, are they placed in a dorm they remain in for their freshman year or do they move after the summer session. Thanks

They typically move dorms and they definitely move rooms. Ignite and challenge have different goals so good idea to compare them.

Ignite is typically housed in Glenn and Towers on the east side. These dorms are the most recently renovated and highest in demand. My youngest was accepted early action and had his pick of dorm so ended up in Towers for the year. He actually had to move down the hall after iGniTe. But most kids have to move to a different dorm. They used to make you move completely out and then move back in a week later which was a little ridiculous. They have now adjusted it so you just move your stuff to your new room on move out day, lock it, and come back for the week of welcome.

Please note that Georgia Tech has a new method for picking dorms For freshman that is not related to when you pay your deposit, as it used to be. You will simply be assigned a room selection time by Lottery, so no way to predict where you might end up.

Thank you. My son is African-American so would probably benefit from either. I have to get into the dorm situation deeper. Thanks again for your great help
