DD got waitlisted from EA deferred. At this point we will even do FYSA to get in. We already will do Ignite. Sigh!! I don’t have much hope for getting pulled off waitlist instate for Mechanical Engineering.

Any perspective on CalTech vs Georgia Tech? Thanks

Me? Hmm… GT is definitely top notch… but CalTech I have no clue other than its in the upper upper top few elite.

The question becomes… does one’s kiddo want to try to do something eccentric after going to CalTech (or MIT or whatever)… like going to do something in academia forever??? Or, is one’s kiddo going to finish college and go into a professional school or workforce or what not? at which point GT is good at producing “leaders of teams” too.

Seems like a win win tradeoff!!!

Both are amazing options but very different schools. Have you visited both? Caltech is tiny, GT is much larger and has more of a big school
experience (D1 sports, Greek life, etc). My son wanted all of that so did not even apply to Caltech, its half the size of his HS.

Stats? Feeling less and less optimistic for S25 (OOS, deferred from EA2) as there cannot be many spots left so to speak… his older brother goes there… and S25 actually has higher academics, ECs, SAT, etc. etc.

SAT 1550, WGPA 4.5, 14 APs, 2 DE Math at GT, National Merit Finalist. ECs could be better. I wouldn’t give up hope yet because yield on OOS is less. Though UGA just mentioned that they will waitlist more students since they are not sure what this year’s yield will be. UGA would rather pull off the waitlist then over admit students. Makes me wonder if GT will do the same thing as well. Really tough year for our high school grads.

If signed up for IGNITE… is it binding? i.e. what if checked it off and then there’s a medical reason that will delay starting until Fall?

Not sure. My guess is it is binding after the May 1 deadline passes, but not sure. My youngest did the opposite. He was admitted for fall, Filled out the acceptance form for fall and submitted it, and then decided on May 1 to opt into ignite. Not sure if you can register for ignite and opt back into fall.

If you are admitted into ignite for summer start, then you must attend in the summer and they will not move your acceptance to the fall. It is very specifically stated in the acceptance letter

No way no how is that a sign. Been through this with S23 who got accepted… it meant nothing then. So too for S25 during EA2 phase… yeah, it meant nothing again and was deferred. Poop. Hoping S25 gets in…

hey everyone :slight_smile: i know there is no portal astrology for georgiatech, but i just noticed something so i just wanted to know if its the same for everyone

  1. go to the applicant portal of georgiatech
  2. right click and press “inspect element”
  3. go to the network tab and press “Cntrl+R” on your keyboard to refresh the page
    you will then see a lot of new things on your screen
  4. then press “cntrl+F” it opens the search
  5. in the search please type “deny”
    You’ll get a result where in the code there are numbers associate with each decision:
    something like admit:##########, waitlist:#######, deny: ######## etc. (its a proper number)
  6. copy the number (in deny or waitlist or accept) and put it back in the search
    do you see another result where the same number is used?

for me, when i copied and pasted the number associated with deny, i got another place where the same number is used, which is in the status page, and didn’t get one for any of the others.. so i was wondering if i am denied or if its the same for everyone.
i knw its tedious, i don’t mean to cause confusion. good day everyone!
