Georgia Tech Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Let’s hope so. It’s fun to watch and a good way to pass the time while waiting.

My son applied EA 1 to CS. He has a 4.33 GPA, 1580 SAT, 9 AP, GT’s DE comp sci 1331 course,
14 rigor classes, Marching Band leadership, all district band, NHS, Eagle Scout, volunteering, etc. He was deferred! We live in Forsyth Co. Is it just that much harder to get in from our county?

I doubt it. CS is just soooo competitive.

I am guessing it was the CS. My guess is they have a cap on how many cs they admit for instate and it was low? I am blown away by the CS people getting deferred from all schools I am following- all insanely competent candidates. Those r some amazing stats! Deferred not denied! Good luck

I wonder if the “Pay Now” button in OSCAR shows that at least you’re not rejected? According to reddit its a deferral/acceptance

Has it confirmed disappeared for some?

It is a lot harder to get in from any populated area in Georgia. At our high school it’s typically the top 10 kids that get in early. Because they have access to the school profile, and know where your child falls in his class, they can usually determine class, rank or position based on that. Test scores seem to matter very little nowadays at Georgia Tech as long as you are above a certain threshold. The former admissions chair, Rick Clark, has said that they have to have a test because of the state of Georgia requirements but no need to take it multiple times. Just watching admissions over the past two or three years it seems that you really don’t get a boost for a super high score. 1450s seem to do as well as 1580s. Your child is a very strong candidate, but lots of strong candidates are deferred. Keep the faith and good luck in March!

I recall when DS20 was applying, there were some similar telltale signs.

DS24’s OSCAR is now showing Pay Now button in the “Secure Access Login” section, and many other sections of the portal that I thought weren’t available before are now available (e.g. Passport and Canvas).

Pay now has been an indicator but wasn’t available until day of as I remember. This seems early if it means something.

I feel behind, what is OSCAR and how does a student check? Thanks!

This was debunked on Reddit. Everyone has it.

That’s interesting. I have pay now, but not that stuff.

Update: nevermind I found it.

My twins didn’t create GT account until now, after I saw your post and asked them to. Now that they do have GT accounts, they can access many services such as OSCAR, EPAY and CANVAS. Not sure what that means unless someone confirm that they don’t have access to those.

I don’t think it means anything this year. Everyone seems to have it and not everyone is getting in.

@Chekov, I remember you from the '20 admission time-frame.

My DS at that time got into GT CS. Where did your DS20 go to? I remember, your DS20 had more-than-impressive credentials (if I am not mistaken)

(BTW, I had a different login at that time, and I lost all the login/password etc).

Hi there @sa6 , thanks for checking in.

DS20 went to MIT (he graduated Fall '22). He was a Stamps semifinalist at GT, but didn’t move on to the finals, which felt like a huge relief, because we didn’t have to make a difficult decision. (He also had a full-tuition merit offer at Vandy, but we felt at the time that full-ride from GT would have been significantly more compelling and likely worth taking).

DS24 was also admitted to MIT EA. His credentials are significantly stronger than his brother’s, so we are sort of curious if he will make Stamps semifinalist as well, but at this point we do not plan to have him pursue it if he does. Knowing what we know now, we are confident MIT is the place for him.

I hope your DS enjoyed his undergrad, and good luck to your DD with her remaining applications!

I have the same question. how to check this?

@Chekov, you MIT-family!!! Wow! Congratulations and all the best.

Yes, my DS20 is now in MS @GT CS. He is loving that place, and more busy with fun stuff than academics  (We also like it that way). now, intense wait-time for my DD24

On your kids’ application portal, there is a link to create GT account, and you can go from there. Google up all above acronyms and you should be able to log in with your GT account credential.
